I have had cockroach, ant and other creepy crawler problems for a while with cockroaches the more persistent. Tried all manner of sprays, traps, pastes. Became very costly very quickly. Many fell way short of the claims made (pesticide industry is a racket!). Kept food away. Thoroughly cleaned everyday. Used the fridge for anything opened. All to minimal effect. The roaches would always have hiding places in the many nooks and crannies. End of the tether so called pest controllers. They came, sprayed for 30 min and left. It has now been 2 months and all is still ok. Not a roach in sight, nor ants or anything else. My concern, having heard that spraying is never long-lasting, is that the infestation will return and I will have to pay for another fumigation. What do pest controllers use and is it readily available?

I’m not sure what sprays you are referring to but you can use foggers (cans that you place throughout your home that fog the entire place) which are very effective. Builders has them.

Tried them. Did not work

They always come back. It's inevitable.

Is this a house or flat?

Sounds like whatever the pest control people did is working. As the name says it is pest control. So you need to use them regularly

I saw a good tip for Ants it may work for roaches is draw a line of chalk at a entrance point
good old Calcium Carbonate.

Tried it. Too many entrance points. Many unsuitable for these measures

Nip-it works for ants. Be careful I think it's poisonous.

The odd cockroach doesn't bother me.

Storing groceries in glass jars helps.

I've seen nary a cockroach since the house geckos moved in - ants are a regular problem though.

For ants (mostly outside the house), I spend 15 minutes every other weekend in spreading something called "blue death" powder (it is multi insect powder) where-ever ant infestation is likely. Typical places are minor cracks/gaps where wall meets pavement tiles or edges where lawn meets pavement tiles. We got someone to fill the gaps between pavement tiles 6 months ago (and repainted the tiles). It needs a multi pronged approach. This has effectively reduced ants coming inside the house over period of 2-3 months. It is a battle one needs to fight every now and then.

Nip-It is not poisonous, which makes it great.
Correct. I used some this morning and ate half a handful afterwards to test the claims. No side effects but I do feel very tired today

I am using the Mortein NaturGard Control System Indoor and set it to mist on the lowest setting.
I haven't had any problems with ants or roaches since using the units for the last six months.
It also has a very pleasant smell.
I switch it on every night before going to bed.
