Coco-cola park ready for the world cup

1 stadium down, 8 to go :)

the stadium previously know as ellis park is now complete and subcontracters will be handing it over at the end of the month.

upgrades done:

- additonal seating and a new roof was added
- new change rooms, VIP, media and medical facilities
- new entrance to the north stand
- new five level car park
- capacity up from 57 000 to 62 000

the outside paving and installation of CCTV cameras will be completed by the end of march but the stadium itself is complete.
 
Loftus is almost done! As far as I know they should be finished by middle March. They still need to install the turnstiles, the new bigscreens and a couple of other things not really vissible to the public.
 
5000 more seats and a roof? thats not a big upgrade in my eyes. at least the walls have a new coat of paint, right?
 
Had to get them ready early for the confed cup
 
Why we couldn't just stick with upgrading of current stadia, like they did with Ellis/Coke Park is beyond me

iirc we have to have a minimum of 9/10 stadia to host the world cup, fifa laws

upgrading current stadiums involves buying land around it which probably have shops and so on occupying it, man utd are having a similar problem atm

I still refuse to call it after a soft drink. It doesn't sound right.
I must say it looked stunning when I watched the Lions vs Cheetahs game. The grass looks top-notch. Has anyone been there lately? Have they solved the parking issues? Thinking of going for the bulls game this weekend.

I am sure it went from Ellis Park to Xerox Ellis Park or some such nonsense.

I wonder just how much mileage the sponsors get out of the name considering the fact that is seems to annoy a bunch of people too?
 
It has only ever been ellis park and sure maybe xerox was there but nobody i know called it xerox ellis park, only now do i hear people calling it something other than ellis park.

They get quite a bit of mileage. All the FIFA games will now include "Coca-Cola park" from 2009 onwards...especially with the WC coming and the spin-off games that come with it. Then there's the rugby games as well. There will probably be a Lions 2009 game or something to that effect...add to that the Super 14 and Tri-nations. And I know FIFA has included some PSL teams in their games too (but why anyone would want them I dunno)

So the sponsors will get their mileage out of the name in terms of advertising. Nevermind all the international media reports that mention the name soon to come...
 
I was at the stadium to watch the lions, looking pretty good but i must say it looks pretty much the same as the last time i was there :), just some red roofs thats all that is new.

O they do not serve beer at half time, i thought that was a major F-up.

You telling me that they will sell more coke because it is called Coca Cola Park? I don't believe.
 
Alber why do you think coke is the biggest selling drink in the world?

Advertising has shoved coke down our throats for decades, do you think coke is the biggest selling soft drink because they never advertise?

You would be amazed how advertising will help a company. I do not believe for one second coke would be so massive without the billions it has spent on advertising.
 
Bloem statdium is also looking good and should be finished very soon, although they are quite a bit over the orginal estimated completion date.
