Hey all,

So I had solar installed end of last year. Installation was great and installer did a good job. Part of the service was to get COCT certification done. It's been over 6 months and the installer has all but completely ghosted me. Not answering calls and ignoring my emails. The last correspondence about 2 months ago said there was a slight adjustment to the application based on COCT feedback that I needed to sign and they would then re-submit, but I can't get hold of them anymore.

How will I be able to resume the application with another company, and does anyone know of someone who would just do the COCT application by itself?

Thanks to CoCT`s dumb socialist rules you will probably have to pay the new installer company the R7500 admin fee to handle all the red tape. You can also try to do it yourself, but it is not easy at all, a lot of red tape.

Have reached out to a couple folk on a Facebook group and had a couple installers say they would take it on.

Agree that there will obviously be a fee attached to it.

Okay, great. Don't mind the fee - as long as it gets done properly.

Have you not paid the fee to the ghost installer already? You probably did if he was busy with it.

So they quoted me for just over R4k for it when doing the entire solar install and I paid a 80% deposit. After install, I kept asking for the balance to be invoiced so I can pay the balance, and this is when they started ignoring my calls and emails. After 4 months, they eventually invoiced the balance but removed the application fee due to how long it was taking for them to attend to it, so luckily, I'm not out of pocket, and said they'd complete it for free. Unfortunately this likely means they have even less incentive to actually do that. It's frustrating since they had started the process and now I have to start again with someone else who doesn't know the install.

My installer excluded the CoCT registration from their quote but did say they would assist where possible. I have mostly been running with the registration process myself and they have been providing supporting documents like the certificate of compliance, depart of labour letter, wiring diagram and other bits/pieces.

I finally received my permission to install letter and supplemental contract from the CoCT last month. I am now stuck as my installer is struggling to find a person registered with ECSA within their business to sign off the installation commissioning report. That is the last hurdle before I can complete the whole process.

Good luck with your endeavors and let me know if there is anything you need to know about the process.

Will DM you the email address of the COCT person who handled mine.

Maybe they can help trace the application.

As a starting point I would use the contact details on the CoCT website and try to find out whether they have any record of your application. If they have nothing at all I guess you would have to start from scratch.

Only 6 months? Have a heart!

Perhaps he is still in hospital after one of the solar panels slid off a roof and knocked over the ladder he was on?
