COD 4 on SAIX server

Those having trouble connecting to the server do the below. It worked for me and should work for anyone else. This resolves the 12 point countdown connection problem.

The problem:
The connection time out is a Flawed Setting put in game.

The Quick Fix:
1. Open Console. Do this by pressing the ~ key.
2. Now you will see a console window open on the top of your screen.
3. To Open a larger console hold SHIFT and press the ~ key. This will open the console on your whole screen.
4. In the console type in the following: /cl_connectionAttempts 180 The default value is 10 which is way to low.

The Permanent Fix:
1. Locate the config_mp.cfg file in the following directory:
Call of Duty 4playersprofilesYourName.
2. Open the files with Wordpad NOT Notepad.
3. Locate the following lines in the file.
seta cl_anonymous "0"
seta cl_freelook "1"
4. Between these 2 lines enter the following line.
seta cl_connectionAttempts "180"
5. It should look like this when you done.
seta cl_anonymous "0"
seta cl_connectionAttempts "180"
seta cl_freelook "1"
6. Save the file and you are done.

but i think it could be that you are on a local only and the key needs international linkup th auth....
 
Yep, got the same issue - "Awaiting key code authorization" when trying to connect to multiplayer games. Google provides a number of answers, but none seem to actually help - sat from 7pm to about 11:30pm last night with help from sharkbait as well, and still doesn't seem to work. Anybody that actually got this fixed?

nvm: found an earlier post from StoneCold which should help... :)

FYI, wishblade and I were trying to play Lan/local game over hamachi, but we both got the errors.

Another FYI, while we were testing last night, international guys could join my hosted game, even though they weren't connected on the hamachi network. Now I just host with a password... :D

Well, had to go back a number of pages - it was posted under a cod4 issue under another heading... But here it is for reference:

BTW, in Vista, editing the damn file is somewhat tedious - had to change a number of permissions on the file, giving me ownership, and then had to save the file as a text file, rename the old hosts file to hosts.old and then only rename the edited hosts.txt to hosts (with no extension).

I've tried the above fix from StoneCold, and network is stable. Maybe try it and then we test tonight?
 
Hey guys,

Thanks for listing my fix here SharkBait, hehe I forgot about that one ;) Marine1, are you using Route Sentry by any chance ? Because there is a updated route table that includes the auth servers for cod4, which works 100%.If you have RS, but not that updated route file, then you'll get that message and you will time out while trying to connect to a server in cod4.Let me know, then I can forward it to you :)

kk, but we are trying a lan game, will it still authorize the key then? My other pc connected with no problem... And the guys from da internetz... :p

Edit: Maybe I should host a dedicated server, cause afaik, with the dedicated server console, you can specify that this should be a LAN only server. :confused:

hmmm... although it would be a LAN game through Hamachi, i think its still seeing it as a net game and so it tries to validate... but I don't know :confused: It could just have been an issue with my game...

I guess the dedicated server could work, again, i got no idea... But lets try it anyway - first a normal server as per last night (but now with the change made to the hosts file) and then if that still doesn't work (:mad:) maybe try the dedicated option.
 
LOL... yeah, I could be a while - must convince the gf that I'll be playing, um, I mean "working" again tonight:)

I think I'm gonna get a beating :D But I should be online a bit after 7:30pm...
