cod mw2 lag issues!!!!

hi guys.. i seriously need some help.

I have recentely had a telkom 4meg line installed. I dont know who my service provider is. My company set everything up.

I play allot of COD MW2 and i honestly thought that i would have a great connection with the 4meg line, however it LAGS like a beast!!! Why? I checked Pingtest.com, and my ping is sitting at 18ms, with decent upload and download times.

My NAT is open, but when i enter the Game, i have moments of epic lag, submerged into moments of decent frames.

What the hell is going on. Is it the Connection i have? Is it some sort of setting on the router (dlink).

Seriously Dissapointed and confused.

What does your HW config look like? Where are you based? Try and find out who your ISP is. Your post, unfortunately creates more questions and does not supply enough info to recommend a solution...
 
Browser open in background? Any downloads? Any other PC's at home? People browsing or downloading?

Issue 1) No one is browsing or using another comp, however i connect my iphone through wifi.
issue 2) Running Vista, on a quadcore. Asus Maximus II Formula. 9800 GX2. 4 GIGS RAM.
Issue 3) Ill try find out the service provider. I know somewhere i saw "sdsl" on a email or something.
 
From a hardware perspective you should be running fine. If you get 18ms pings then your gameplay should be fine... What AV u using?

Are you sure you were playing on a RSA host? It could be that you joined an international host and then the lag can get pretty hectic! Add me as a friend 'Slaught3rza' and when I am online I will invite you to play with us, then we can start trouble shooting...
 
thanks man, i appreciate all the help. Ive played about 10 games since the 4meg install. every game lagged.. Sux so bad at the moment. I play on a 384 line at work and thats better.. Cool, ill add you.

Not sure what AV means?

AntiVirus.

This is very strange. If you do a speedtest.net, what does it say your ISP is, this would help us a bit more in finding out whom your ISP is.

BTW, why did the work set it up? Maybe it's a VPN connection to work and you use the company's internet for internet access....
 
It should yes, do a tracert to an external website and post result, we should be able to check from there.
 
This is some strange problem this hey....18ms at Pingtest is good but what was your Jitter timing and also was their any packet loss detected. Also keep in mind that there can be some sort of permanent port shaping happening that causes this lag as the port used for the game can have a set bandwidth limit. This you can only confirm with your ISP though...
 
Guys, tax for the input. For some reason it's working better now. I set the graphics down in game, then it worked way better. I then put the graphics up again, and it still is working fine. I will do all the tests u guys said I should do when I can access a .com. My ISP is having issues with the international websites, so I'm stuck at the moment. Monday is should be resolved.

I still don't know if I was experiencing lag, it felt more like screen jitter if that makes sense. I did update my VGA drivers etc.

This is strange cos My NAT is also open on mw2

I really hope it's not the ports etc, that would suck
