Friend of mine wants to update from v1.0 to v1.7 directly.Is it possible or does he need to update from 1.0 to 1.1 to 1.2 etc?

He will need to get a few patches if i remember, some he can skip but a few are vital so there is not one single patch from 1 to 1.7, take a look at SAIX gaming website under downloads you can find them all there. Also are people still playing this??
