I moved my install of COD4 to another drive by uninstalling and reinstalling (from C:\ to D:\) and now the game takes forever to load in MP....Once I am in the game it is fine, no lag or anything, but to load the map is agonisingly slow.... What do you think could be causing this...I am more interested in why this would happen rather than desperate for a fix cause I can live with a bit longer load time, I just find it strange...Worse case I could try reinstall….By the way, both c:\ and d:\ are the same drive, just partitioned in case you think it is a slower drive. ;)

background apps you installed since the uninstall / reinstall?

Could be, can't think off hand what I have installed since, but all in all my PC is running fine....Other games seem to load ok.

ctrl alt delete, look at processes, see what is chowing up your CPU/Memory

Click on performance too see how much free memory you have / CPU usage

also try stuff like:

* Disabling Automatic Windows Updates
* Disabling Windows Firewall / Third Party Firewall
* Disabling Anti Virus
* Closing any open apps / background apps (in the system tray)

First thing I checked was processes running and haven’t spotted anything that strange, other than the fact that I have 2 sessions of apache running at about 25 MB each...bit weird.

Try defragging your hard drives.
What kind of HHD u running and what is there order?

Defrag regularly, got a 250 GIG SATA partitioned 30 GB (windows drive) and 220 for storage..I also have a 60 GIG IDE but don’t think that has anything to do with it.

Okay I see what u can try I have seen it works sometimes is change the splash screen of COD.
