Hi guys

I installed call of cod4 on windows 7 ultimate 64bit. The problem that I am having is that the multiplayer does not work, single player works fine but when i go into the multiplayer the screen goes black and stays that way till i ctrl-alt-del it.

Gpu: 8600Gt (but dont think its a hardware issue).

anyone got anything?

I think it is because of the punkbuster problem. Was another similar thread somewhere. Just have a look around.

Is it Punkbuster if the game does not start at all?

If I run the MP I don't even come get to the logo splash screens, it starts loading for a few secs, the screen flashes and I'm back at the desktop. I googled and all I got was sound driver problems, tried it all with no results. Patched to version 1.7. SP work perfectly. CoD 5 works perfectly

Running Win 7 RC, MSI X58 pro (Realtek onboard HD audio)

Any advise will be appreciated

I know PB and windows 7 dont work - however I am not convinced that would casue it to hang. The most it should do is boot you off a server with a PB error message.

I uninstalled PB completely and got the same result, the game does not even get to the Activision logo. All I can find on the net is related to sound drivers, I tried all of that, no change. It does not make sense that the single player works perfectly if it is a driver issue, it should start before it give a issue if it is PB. Very frustrating.

SOLVED IT!

Very bizarre, but here is what solved it.

I found an obscure entry somewhere is a CoD forum about having a mic plugged in otherwise the game does not start, so I thought what the hell I've tried everything else. I plugged my mic into the front panel of my box, but nothing changed, then on a hunch I checked the Realtek Audio manager and it did not detect the mic plugged in on the front panel, I changed it to the back and IT WORKS.

I fiddled further with the Audio Manger, if you are using the same one I have (MSI motherboard) there is a small 'file folder' icon in the top right hand corner that opens the connector settings box. Click on and tic the 'Disable front panel jack detection'. Presto! No need to plug in a mic.

Bizarre but there you go, hope this help someone.

This is quite brilliant!! Well done, just disabled my front panel jack and now it works... its quite a strange problem to begin with though.

Yeah this is an issue lots of ppl had, I experiences the same issue. Updated my sound drivers and every thing seems fine now. Its a lot better than connecting a mic the whole time

actually sorry, let me correct myself there.I've just tried it again and it worked (plugged mic into wrong port).Through my years i have never seen an issue quite like this,it is weird but who cares,it works :)

I have had no problems with COD4 or 5 MP with Win7X64. Only Crysis & Wars, But that is definately a Punkbuster problem. Have not tried recently though.... (since the official Win7 release)

Try this (It worked for me)

Go to Control Panel -> Sound
Select the recording tab and right click on a blank space in the box with devices.
Select "Show disabled devices", right click on "Stereo Mix" and select enable.

Hope it helps!!

The mic trick worked for me. If my microphone is not plugged in, then I can't play CoD4. Or even CoD2. I'm running Win 7 Ent. 32bit

if i found this earlier i would have told u it was the mic . sorry buddy haha
