I want to get my 5year old son interested in development and the logical and cognative thinking that goes with it.
I know of an array of games on linux tailored for kids.

Problem is he doesn't read yet (work in progress) so most of the conventional stuff would be above his competancy.

I have a Samsung P605 that I want to setup for him, the 7" can go to his sister(3) with the normal colour/shape/numeracy games already installed.

Any advice on apps available?
Do not mind spending money on a add free version, but needs to be worth it.

MIT have a tool called App Inventor which allows you to build simple apps by putting "blocks" together. It might still be a bit complicated for him to work through on his own, but with your help it could work.

I did say it was for my SON.

I was coding in QBasic and Z80 Assembly (ref? ZX Spectrum stuff) when I was around 7 or 8. So what is wrong in teaching your kid Visual Basic? It's piss easy.

I have introduce my 5 year old to https://code.org/

I have to introduce a couple of 28 year old's to that too, some programmers just don't have what is required

Kids don’t have childhoods anymore. At 5, learning was the last thing I wanted to do :)

Same with me, not assembly though (damn, at that age!) but BASIC and LOGO.

Heh? I guess you mean kids should be out on their bikes, etc? As a kid, I did both, no issues. If a kid is interested, they will enjoy coding
