AFAIK most of these are based on small studies which do not properly account for confounding factors like concurrent sugar intake etc.(Open to correction)
Some of the benefits of coffee I know:
Reduces tooth decay
Reduces risk of diabetes
Reduces risk of liver disease
Reduces risk of Parkinson's disease
Coffee drinkers have lower rate of suicide
Reduces risk of certain gastro-intestinal cancers
Reduces risk of prostate cancer
May be bad for stomach due to alkalinity
I've seen conflicting reports on the effect of coffee on cardiovascular health. Anyone know about this?
Makes sense if you leave out the vasoconstriction bit. Brain vasomotor reflexes are way to complex to deal with here. Does have a role in the management of migraine though.Effects on mental performance I'm not sure: caffeine is a stimulant but also a vasoconstrictor so coffee causes an initial boost in mental performance followed by a dip as the stimulant effects of caffeine wear off but vasoconstriction remains. Not sure about this though.
Curiously I drink lots of coffee yet my blood pressure is low, typically 90-something over 50-something. I often feel dizzy when getting up quickly etc.
Also coffee seems to not cause insomnia with me. I can have a cup right before going to bed and when my head hits the pillow I'm out.
It shouldn't be higher than that, particularly the second number. A bit lower is fine. That is a bit too low! IIRC your blood pressure ideally should be at 120/80
Possibly due to a drop in glucose levels. Caffeine is best in small doses (which will depend on your current tolerance level) for improved mental performance.Effects on mental performance I'm not sure: caffeine is a stimulant but also a vasoconstrictor so coffee causes an initial boost in mental performance followed by a dip as the stimulant effects of caffeine wear off but vasoconstriction remains. It may simply interfere with deep sleep. So people end up perpetually tired. Which is fixed with more caffeine. Also coffee seems to not cause insomnia with me. I can have a cup right before going to bed and when my head hits the pillow I'm out.
If you really wanted to stop then 48h of pain wouldn't be an obstacle.I wish I could stop drinking coffee. I've tried but then I get awful headaches.
The headache has been compared to a migraine, so I can sympathise. If you really wanted to stop then 48h of pain wouldn't be an obstacle.
But if you really wanted to stop you could taper the dose.I wish I could stop drinking coffee. I've tried but then I get awful headaches. Plus it's like I have an insatiable craving for coffee.
I know what it feels like. Its just a question of willpower. The headache has been compared to a migraine, so I can sympathise.
