If anything but a suspended sentence this is a joke. They didn't kill/assault the guy. They scared him and let him go. Sure, they restrained him unlawfully, threatened to kill him and the likes. But physically they caused him no harm. Mentally I feel the guy should be compensated, but that is a different court case all together and I recall reading he will be making a civil case. So suspended sentence and then a financial reward via a civil suit is perfectly fine I would say.

A total joke of our legal system if Attempted Murder charges are put in and sentencing carried out for that.
 
I don't understand why so many people here are so upset and want to defend these guys.

They are *******s and their behaviour was unacceptable. They must be punished, it's that simple.
It's not about burning in hell but people cannot be allowed to get away with that behaviour.

Who's defending them?

The law is there for a reason. If there was no video recording no one would have know it ever happened. It's a political issue now and nothing to do with the events of what happened. Restraining someone, putting them in a coffin and threatening to kill them leads to attempted murder even after they let the guy go unharmed?

Edit: actually seeing it's you again making such a stupid assumption I should have just ignored it...

No one said they should not be punished. Please highlight 1 single post that says they should not be punished. If not you are clearly trolling and will be reported for such.

... again, everyone is for punishment fitting the bill, people are against the law just being willfully ignored because feelings and political intervention ;)

Concepts of justice have to apply to everyone. What people could be upset about is the politicisation of the trial affecting the course of justice. Which should upset everyone.

That remains to be seen, if they get the same sort of sentence as someone would get for murder( so 6 years if you are Oscar Pistorius :p), then there would be good grounds to appeal.

The law is the law, but the sympathizers are more worried about the savages than the victim (even if he is milking it). The sentence will suite the punishment but we shall see, lol would be funny if they got the same sentence as Oscar

I think the judgement is harsh, but if the victim genuinely believed (by action and word from the perps' mouths) that they were trying to murder him then there's a case for them to be found guilty of attempted murder. They must just appeal to a higher court for the evidence to be examined and properly found if the lower court judge was swayed by public outrage.
