So, I've heard a lot of people in the past say that taking icy cold showers can improve your general health. Is this true? Does anyone here take cold showers?

With summer coming up, I can't think of a better time to get into the habit of taking cold showers every morning. Nice way to save electricity as well. Only problem is the self-discipline. Just had to take a cold shower because I forgot to switch the geyser on when I got home after being away for the long weekend, and I almost died.

If I do then after work or an workout, but what you are referring to is more of the outside newton 3D setup AFAIk.

The Germans and the Russians often do it as a way of life. Don't think it's unhealthy at the very least.

If I had to take cold showers, my "general health" could go hang.

Warm, relaxed and happy = my general health doing far better than were it hinging on hypothermia.

**** all that. The only time I'm willing to have an icy shower is if I am hiking...

Well, I'm actually feeling pretty energetic and active, though it could just be a placebo effect. I think I'm going to shower cold this week and then see how I feel about it after that.

Edit: Only thing that worries me is that hot water is supposed to open your pores, so I don't think they'd get clean properly if I showered cold? I'm not a dermatologist, so that's just me projecting random thoughts, though. :p

Well with regards to your face, you should wash it with warm water first then when it is clean use cold water to shrink the pores.

I usually shower warm and then turn off the hot water for the rinse at the end. I have heard it tightens the skin. It sure refreshes you, although in Durban in summer you are already sweating again by the time you reach for your towel.

It obviously works for me cos I'm stunning... Ha ha ;)

I do find that shaving with cold water reduces bumps down to almost zero compared to shaving with hot water.

There's one place I don't really go. I find that shaving with hot water is a much smoother experience. Cold water often makes the razor tug my beard out more than it shaves away at it.
