Colin Daniels is currently Head of Digital for the South African division of the Trader Media Group where, amongst other things, he manages a digital department and is responsible for the commercial success of several digital products and services including Auto Trader, Commercial Trader, and Auto Freeway.

Prior to joining TMG South Africa, he was Publisher of The Times Online (South Africa) and also founded and managed Avusa’s first commercial digital innovation unit (Avusa iLab).

The Times Online experienced phenomenal success under his leadership and, in a very short period of time, the iLab has received critical acclaim through the successful launch of numerous projects including: Nudjit, Times Mobile, Times Multimedia and the SA Elections special project.

Before entering the corporate world, he lectured new media at the highly respected New Media Lab—a division of the Rhodes University School of Journalism and Media Studies—where he taught digital theory and production to post-graduate journalism students and organised the Digital Citizen Indaba (DCI) South Africa’s first blogging and citizen journalism conference.

In 2009, he was re-elected to serve a third term on the Executive Committee of the Online Publishers Association (OPA) and he is also on the South African Advertising Research Foundation (SAARF) board.

He has also been known to contribute to a range of media and technology publications and have spoken at numerous conferences.
