Hey guys :)

Ok so this is the problem, I recently got a new PC and photoshop CS5 64bit, I am designing a business card for a friend of mine. After saving it as a jpg and opening it with windows picture and fax viewer, the color looked totally different than in photoshop. The background is supposed to be blue but it becomes almost grey.

I turned of all of the screens color enhancement. I also checked which color profile my screen was using and it seems to be the same one as photoshop (sRGB IEC 61966-2-1), though there are many color settings. But the color is still different. Then today I take the photo to my friend (jpg) and the color is even more different there.

Can anybody help me?

is the image saved in cmyk colour mode? windows viewer doesn't display cmyk properly

What! Yes it was cmyk, I wonder why, I always use RGB??? How could this have happend?

Yes you probably designed the business card in CMYK. You shouldn't save it as jpg. Always pdf when printing. CMYK is very different from RGB.

Remember all printers print CMYK
Not such things as a RGB printer

Hence all print work should be designed in cmyk
The trick is that all monitors display RGB and when u input a cmyk value , the monitor is showing u a representation of what it thinks the CMYK should be

Meaning, it cant show u color a truly accurate colours hence why hardcopy pantone swatch books are used

Also try avoid changing an image from RGB to CYMK - this can cause that color loss u are describing
Rather create the document as CYMK from the start
