Colour coded bumpers

So, I have a Golf 5 and I want to colour code my bumpers. My car is white and the rear bumper is black. Ive seen quite a few golf 5's on the road with colour coded bumpers (ie. they match the body) - where do you get this done?

I went to a panel beater and he says he can do it but that he doesnt recommend it because he thinks the paint will flake off? Are people getting metallic bumpers or treating their bumpers specially to get them colour coded?

Do you have the 1.6?

I think the plastic needs to be specially treated to be sprayed - thats all - try another panel beater...
 
No I have the 1.9tdi. Its the same as the 1.6 in terms of exterior finish... Do you know anyone that specialises in colour coding the bumpers?
 
a good panel beater should be able to do it... I mean - if one that comes factory colour coded gets rear ended - what they going to do?
 
Does the factory do colour coded rears? I always thought it was done manually?

Hey man, where are you based? I have a mk5 TDI and had the same problem but there are enough places around that can do a good job. The 1st problem is that the door mouldings/bumper are textured and not smooth like the GTI's door strips so you need quite a few coats of primer to make it look smooth and for the paint on top to stick nicely. If you get a cheap job the paint will come off. I just put the GTI rear valence on and colour coded it last week. The standard Golf bumper is fugly and doesn't look good colour coded. PM me if you want a GTI rear valence. 2nd problem is with the double sided tape used to keep the mouldings on the door. The oem tape used is not available in SA and the stuff used locally by panelbeaters generally is not so good and they will eventually start peeling off. A few panelbeaters have told me this. 3M tape I hear is pretty good. Make sure you use a SAMBRA approved place and preferably one that is VW/Merc/BMW approved.

The factory colour coded door mouldings on the FSI and GTI are actually different to the ones on the 1.6, 2.0 and TDI. They make them smooth and can be bought from VW primed but unpainted for a rediculous R2000+-.

The rear bumpers you see colour coded are all done aftermarket. Some VW stealerships will do it for you but they just send your car to a VW approved panelbeater and then charge you double.
 
You shouldn't pay more than R1000 for the back bumper to be primed and sprayed and R1500 for the mouldings and door handles.
 
When I ordered my car from VW, I also ordered all the optional accessories on their site for it. VW themselves then sent it to Sportech to be sprayed and fitted, which is why I recommended them.

Sorry to bring up a thread from the dead. I just wanted to know if anyone knows how much it would cost to colour-code a 2008 MKV Golf GTI's rear bumper, side skirts and front lip and where it could be done in Durban in 2017 and done well. Thanks in advance. :D
