OK, so we have an old Nashua Aficio photocopier/fax machine in the office that is about ten years old, but is still running great.

But we want to replace it with a MFC photocopier/fax/scanner that can handle multi-page colour scanning directly to the server.

So we are looking at this one...

Anybody got any opinions on Brother machines? The cartridges cost about R900 but can do up to 8000 sheets per cartridge.

Anybody got any better ideas? Is there a better brand I can go for at the same price?

We have the Samsung SCX 4x28N printer at work (network) and we can scan either to USB drives or to email (scanning on the network is actually done as an email) which can then be sent to a mail server / server / etc

Costs under R3K. Cartridges are R700 and you get 2500 pages

EDIT: The scanner can also be plugged into a PC if you want.

Ja, thanks. But since we are already replacing one high yield Photocopier for something else, we need something for which we won't be replacing cartridges very often.
The Nashua Toner bottles give 5000 to 7000 pages, but this brother printer gives 8000 pages per cartridge.
That makes it very economical and attractive for us.
2500 pages per cartridge is not as good an option.

we've got the mfc9450 and its a brilliant little machine, scan to pc, usb and everthing else

Ja, that's the colour copier version, right?
We are happy with just the black toner version.
I think the colour copy feature would get a bit abused in our office! :p

Have a look @ the Minolta Bizhub range. We are running a BizHub250 (Black) & a Bizhub280C (Colour).

Both are on a maintenance agreement - monthly rental over 36 months with a 37 month option to buy.

In addition to the monthly rental, we pay a per page fee of around R0.06 for black & R0.53 for colour regardless of coverage.

The great thing is that all maintenance, toner etc. in included in the monthly fee and usage i.e. who can do what on the printer can be controlled on a per user or per department level. It faxes, it scans directly to FTP, PDF, JPG etc., copies/prints/scans can be forced to black if you don't want someone printing in colour.

Also, rental means the VAT can be claimed back & it doesn't form part of the company assets so it isn't taxed.

They have a response time of a maximum of 4 hours and the service is great.

Ja, thanks, but we prefer outright purchase as opposed to rental.

Gary just as a matter of interest do you know the coverage of those 8000 pages as opposed to the coverage of the Nashua?
