Hi Guys,

I know a thing or 2 about engines but I'm no pro by any stretch of the imagination.

That being said, I did a service on my Bakkie over the weekend but ran into a very big roadblock.

On my Engine the intake manifold is right on top of the V6 engine in such a way that I actually have to remove the Manifold to get the plugs out. I have never in my life needed to remove an intake manifold and I'm scared shytless just to attempt it. It does look like the Fuel rail for the injectors are separate from the manifold unlike other cars. But I can't see well enough to take a risk and remove the manifold. I don't want to take it off and while doing so mess up the injectors.

Is there anyone that has done this before or have any idea of how I should do it?

It looks like a whole day's work just to replace 6 spark plugs :(

Can't you find the service manual online?

I have tried only thing I could find is a step by step procedure from someone in the states on a straight 6 engine. So it's not entirely the same engine but the steps make sense. I just don't want to use that step by step list and end up with something not being in that procedure and breaking something which could turn out to be pretty expensive :D

What model engine does that bakkie use? Should be stamped on a plate somewhere in the engine bay.

Try these for now,

The last picture in that thread is exactly what I was looking for :) tyvm mate. See the fuel rail there with the injectors? I was scared that is fixed to the manifold. Now that I see it's not I'll attempt it :o Looks exactly like my engine and believe me that is a couple of hours work for 6 spark plugs :(

Jip, injectors are not part of what you remove. Just remember to cover the inlets with a towel or something, you don't want stuff like dirt or a bolt falling down there! :D

Designer of that engine should get a hiding, all that work just to replace spark plugs is stoopid.

And the guy at the spares place asked me if I want platinum spark plugs or standard ones. I asked him what the price difference is and the Platinum ones for 6 came to almost R 1000. I said give me the cheap ones. If only I knew I would have taken the platinum ones :D
