COM Ports on XP...

I seem to have up to 9 COM ports (serial ports) used on my XP notebook. How do i check what uses which COM port? I'm trying to connect a USB PIC Programmer to be read by a WinPIC program for programming PIC16F84 but this little WinPIC proram is not happy with the assigned COM10, thus am trying to move it to COM4 or 5....

You can change the COM port to whatever you want - go to device manager, scroll down to ports, properties on COM10, port settings tab, advanced button - right at the bottom you'll see "COM Port Number: ". Change it to COM 1, 2 or such.
