any idea, but i think i read here somewhere that there is this setup in SA that takes 4 DSL lines and combine them into 1 line effectively giving you 4 x whatever speed.
Has anyone heard of this or used something like this? Is it worth it? What are the costs? Who are the suppliers?

ciao.

As far as I recall it is not possible to Bond ADSL interfaces is SA, Telkom does not support MLPPP. There are a couple of router product out there that does offer a simalar option. The router does not bond the interface to become one virtual interface, but keeps track of the connections sent over each interface (adsl line).

The only difference is that you connect via thier hardware to thier dslam located in thier head office via adsl where they resell you portion of thier international bandwidth, bypassing telkom's adsl network altogether, and as far as i remember , it was ridiculusly expensive.
I stand to be corrected...

Again, it is possible, if you bypass telkom. But its expensive.

Quote : "Johannesburg IT company Technology Concepts has come up with a clever way of connecting broadband ADSL lines to provide higher-speed connections to businesses. It has developed a machine, known as a channel bonding box, that "fuses" up to five ADSL connections, providing download speeds of up to 20 Mbit/s (five times Telkom's fastest 4 Mbit/s ADSL offering)."

I know IS offers such a product. We were going to bond 2x 4MB lines. Dunno about the cost though.

Vox Telecom has launched an ADSL bonder that can connect up to 6 ADSL lines to provide you with a single pipe. It is called a FISHBONE. Costs vary depending on bandwidth requirements but the unit will cost R2250 per month including port fees. They use unshaped bandwidth and everything is done through them including the Telkom DSL lines...
