Okay so from my couch/curtain-shopping you might have noticed I'm moving into my own place yadayada

I'm always trying to save money and since my budget didn't include a "dryer" I was interested to see that there's a Samsung Washer/Dryer combo on sale at Makro. It's about 1k more than I was going to spend on a proper front loader (the Samsung Eco-bubble thing) and I reckon I can pull it off budget wise to rather go for the washer/dryer combo.

Problem is, is this a bunch of bull****? Do any of you guys have experiences with washer/dryer combo's? I can't find any reviews online for the samsung I'm interested in and was wondering if I'd be better off with the cheaper model than going for a "combo"

I think that would be model dependant... but ours is quiet, I can't hear it in the lounge, and I don't think it uses a lot of electricity, never checked

Here is what I was told when I wanted to buy one. Problem is you can only ever do one load at once - so whites and colours will have to be done on separate days as they take longer to go through the full wash to dry cycle. Ironing them is a bitch because they crease up badly in the combos. If you have a maid then this isn't an issue though...

With an iron?

But do you do it yourself, and when? How long does it take? Or do you use an ironing service?

I currently take my clothes to my mom's house to be washed and ironed. I want to get myself a washing machine but that doesn't solve the problem of ironing.

They only crease if you leave them in the machine after the cycle.

A single/couple wouldn't have much laundry....

I did my own ironing, now I have a domestic.

Driers of all natures use a lot of electricity. They have basically a 3kw element in them if I'm not mistaken... so R6 per 2 hour drying cycle is a fair guesstimate.

Also I wouldn't use a combo. I like to be able to put another load of washing on while the first load dries. AND.... not all clothes can be safely tumbledried, so you're gonna have a mission there too.

I'm considering getting a DriBuddi or some equivalent of it. It is claimed that it reduces or even eliminates the need for ironing because you hang the clothes while they are being blowdried.

Does it use more or less electricity?

Thanks for all the responses:

Humberto: I've never ironed in my life. Tried to, but never did. I either had a dosmestic (yes, that's what I call them) do it or my mom, but the handful of years I've lived without either, I just make sure I grab them out of the drier fresh and fold them up neatly. You can't even see the difference TBH, but then again, IM A GUY!

Vegeta: The DriBuddi is quite nice, doesn't use that much power, but it's not as quick as a tumble dryer. I'm thinking it may even use the same amount of electricity, but I'm not sure. Check the manufaturer's website perhaps?

DJ...: I'm not too concerned about not being able to do another load of washing right after the other load finished. I'm 1 person at the moment and do my washing on Saturdays. I have 3 loads max and have the entire day to do my thing and would most probably only use the dryer feature when it's urgent that the clothes be dry quite quickly (like if I got lazy on Saturday and did it on Sunday). I'm not too concerned about creasing either since, if you take it out immediately, it usually doesn't do that, even if you hang it up instead of using the dryer. The idea here is to save myself 3k on a dryer and get a proper washing machine to boot :) Just always a bit scared of "new" technology I haven't come across before

If you have serious space constraints and your budget is tight, with no possibility of a female moving in with a load of washing per day, then it's a good bet. Otherwise, consider getting specialists for each role - washer and dryer...

Space isn't a problem as much as the budget is ATM. I don't mind going without, like I said, it's just me and I usually "budget" my time effectively to allow for the clothes to dry properly on the washing line. Especially doing it Saturday mornings. But provided the weather isn't in my favor, I need a backup.

I actually forgot about the dribuddy, but that thing is hideous IMO and I do have proper space for a dryer and a washer. A combo would just mean I can use that space for my wine fridge I plan on getting later when money allows :D

I also don't need a female to do my ironing for me, pff. Bachelors here seem like they know nothing. I'm so used to doing washing I don't even really think about it anymore.

Hmmm, so I got the thing, impressed with how quiet it is (after I adjusted the "feet"), but I'm a little dissapointed by the dryer feature. It seems my clothes come out warm+wet and require me to hang it up afterwards anyway.

Waste of electricity or am I missing something? I tried the low temp cycle and the normal one (normal one made my clothes smell funny imo). I thought the low temp cycle will take its time and completely dry, however it just down an hour or so into it with damp towels (just had the towels in it)

Any tips?

Make sure its not overloaded.... mine does that when its over loaded, then I just put it on another dry cycle.
