The surviving members of UK comedy group Monty Python have been tipped to announce a comeback, according to reports.

The members, John Cleese, Michael Palin, Terry Gilliam, Eric Idle and Terry Jones, who are all in their seventies, are expected to announce the news at a press conference in London on Thursday, said The Independent.

"Only three days to go till the Python Press Conference. Make sure Python fans are alerted to the big forthcoming news event", Idle tweeted Monday, sparking further speculation.

A spokesman for the group said 'The Pythons' will be "unveiling their plans to work together again" at the press conference.

The Sun reported the group had agreed to reunite, but did not give any further details.

A source told newspaper: "No one ever thought this was possible, but it's 100 per cent happening. They knew it was a case of now or never. This will be a fully-fledged reunion - it's huge news for the entertainment world ... It's a testament to their very significant cultural impact that Python fans have never given up on a reunion, even though it's decades since they were last together, said Bang Showbiz.

"Now their wishes have come true. There's going to be huge anticipation about what they decide to do when they reunite."

The collaborative project would be the first for three decades, but no further details are available as to whether the plans will involve a live show, tour, film or book.

The comedy group is best known for TV sketch show Monty Python's Flying Circus, which first aired in 1969 and continued for 45 episodes until 1974.

Their popular films include 1975's Monty Python and the Holy Grail and Monty Python's Life of Brian released four years later.

The last time all six original Monty Python members collaborated together was in the 1983 film The Meaning of Life, released six years before 48-year-old Graham Chapman's death from cancer in 1989, said The Mirror.

Idle once joked: "We would only do a reunion if Chapman came back from the dead. So we're negotiating with his agent."

Very much holding my opinion on this tbh.

I still like all of the Monty Python guys, but they've all moved on to become very different personalities over the years.

Monty Python announces reunion show in July

The Monty Python gang is coming back for a reunion show in July.

The five surviving members said Thursday the London show is planned as a single event but that further engagements are possible.

The group had its first big success with the Monty Python's Flying Circus TV show, which ran from 1969 until 1974, winning fans around the world with its bizarre sketches. The group branched out into movies including "Life of Brian" and backed theatrical shows such as "Monty Python's Spamalot."

The five surviving members last performed together in 1998. The sixth member, Graham Chapman, died of cancer in 1989.

Monty Python reunion show sells out in 43.5 seconds

Monty Python added another four dates to their "one-off" reunion show on Monday after thousands of tickets to their first London live performance sold out in just 43.5 seconds.

John Cleese, Terry Gilliam, Eric Idle, Terry Jones and Michael Palin announced their long-awaited return to the stage last week, sparking huge excitement among fans of the comedians who have not performed together since 1980.

They said they only planned to do one show at the 20,000-capacity O2 Arena on July 1, and Idle said the intention was "to see if we can fill it".

But the promoters were clearly prepared for the huge demand that saw tickets with a face value of under ÂŁ100 offered on re-sale websites for ÂŁ1,600 ($2,600, 1,900 euros) within 15 minutes of the sale opening.

"The first show sold out in 43.5 seconds. Four further shows immediately went on sale: 2-5 July," a spokesman for Monty Python told AFP.

The Pythons will perform the most famous sketches from their television programme and films -- although advancing age has imposed some limits on what they will be able to do.

Cleese, 74, admitted that a repeat of his Ministry of Silly Walks sketch will be "impossible" as he now has an artificial hip and artificial knee.

"I think you can expect a little comedy, a lot of pathos, some music and a tiny bit of ancient sex," added Idle, 70.

The troupe became famous with their irreverent and surreal television show "Monty Python's Flying Circus" from 1969 to 1974, which was sold to almost 100 countries.

One of their hit sketches was Dead Parrot, where Cleese tries to return a Norwegian Blue to a pet shop because it is dead. The owner, Palin, responds: "He's not dead, he's resting!".

They also made several films including 1975's "Monty Python and the Holy Grail", a parody of the legend of King Arthur, and "Monty Python's Life of Brian" in 1979, the tale of a young man mistaken for Jesus which riled religious groups.

Not for me, never ever could align with British humour, even in the slightest way.

Watched tons of episodes of Fawlty Towers (dad forced us) never got to smile once.

Not for me.

Eish, maybe I'm the only condescending bastard here... but when people say they don't "get" British humour, I pity them and look down on them! Sorry. :o
