Hi all,

Any views on C&C 3 yet ? I played it this weekend and got seriously stuck into GDI. My feeling is that they are much weaker than Scrin. I played with GDI vs medium Scrin AI (random personality) and struggled a bit. Using Scrin I managed to wipe out medium enemy quite easily. Anyway will figure out all the odds and ends later.

Overall I was also a bit disappointed with the number of units available. Lack of variety also a bit worrying.

I am loving this game. Finished the GDI bit and am starting the NOD one now.

Not a lot of aircraft so far which has been poor. And no really huge machines either...The mammoth Tanks are one thing and the heavy mechs, but nothing truly massive...

Bought a copy out of nostalgia for the original c&c games. It isn't bad but their online multiplayer interface is woeful at best.

As for the scrin's power, its all airforce power, so AA base defenses and AA troops/tanks are order of the day. If you can neutralize the threat from their airforce they will have to fight you with land forces and that will almost certainly mean death against gdi or nod.

I haven't played it that much but as long as the balance is right between the units on all sides then I am not too worried about the lack of choices. The most entertaining part for me is the strategies involved in beating a well matched opponent.

The Scrin have got something similar to the Protoss carrier, which launches small fighters. I find the Scrin units too confusing, takes a while to figure which one does what. GDI are by far the simplest to play.

Scrin ground units are like the zerg, weak but effective if massed.

There'll be an expansion pack out soon, if Generals is anything to go by. It'll sort out the imbalances.

Not enjoying the single player skirmishes, LAN games are where the action's at.

Just bought the game myself :)

Playing the singleplayer gdi campaign at the mo and its quite nice.
Main reason for buying this game over Supreme commander was that I can actually play this one. Hopefully in a year or so i can get supreme commander working on a new pc.

I've been having quite a lot of fun with gdi until about 2 days ago when I figured out that mammoth tank spam > all.

It really sucks that the mammoth is so strong. It's got good damage against air and land plus coupled with a rig the spam becomes almost unstoppable.

Yeah, this is a bit unfair. Would still like to see more variation in the air vehicles, and some ships as well...

Its starnge you say so they are real big guns but they have a downfall. The nod's air attack can take them down as well as the GDI startofighters thats normally how i fend them of.

But those cannons of the GDI that plast emp shreds, they rip holes through those tanks.

I just cant seem to build as fast as those guys online, the uber fast im still building structers and here he comes with like 4 mamoth tanks.

Grrrr

:( Mammoth tank > all other.

From past experience in zero hour and the like using your ultimate fighter to take out individual units is never a good idea.

Stratofighters should b used more for pinpoint attacks or close base defense imho.

oh and a trick to getting ure sonic cannons to fire further. Force attack to their limit of their range. It seems their shockwave goes on a bit further than their range limit so by forcing it to shoot at its max your increasing its range.

I often find myself building more mammoth tanks thank paying 1200 for fixed defences like sonic cannons..

You get to play the Scrin when you finish the NOD campaign.

But takes a while to figure out what buildings and units do what. THe Scrin is not "familiar", like GDI or NOD. And they've got MORE units and buildings, just to confuse things even further.

Kewl, I have nearly finished the NOD campaign.

The Scrin sure are confusing- I still don't know what half their buildings or units are really good for....

Scrin are easy to use :) they have very strong air! but their base units are really weak but in numbers can do damage :D

You know thats kinda boring, reminds me of zerg to much. I love GDI cause they really cool but darn slow to build. But then nod build uber fast but really weak, then Scrin are fast and annoying those tripods, arg.

I dont know who to play online with. They like that tank rush cr@p, man thats so annoying where is the fun in that hey.

TW Campaigns rock

I started playing TW in skirmish mode which was a mistake. The campaigns are bloody awesome. Movie sequences rock! I'm busy with GDI campaign now and are really learning some cool moves. Only thing that sux is that in the campaigns they show batteships but there are no battleships in the skirmish (or I'm blind). Hopefully there will be an expansion pack to fix that.

Thought I'd share a nice skirmish tip if one is unable to play online during the day (always the case with me - ping of death) and you're wanting a pretty decent challenge from the AI. Set the AI to 'extreme' difficulty and give them a handicap of about -20%. Naturally choose a randow opponent, and for them to use any of the available tactics at it's disposal (ie, change it from balanced to xxxxx). Throws in the same randomness that meets you when playing online. The AI can be very, very good, adjusting to what doesn't work and revising its strategies.

Is anybody playing TW online? I have been playing for the past week. My ping is always in the yellow though.

Don't know if its because we are in deepest darkest Africa or whether there is a problem with my setup.

Have made sure that the software firewall ports are open. Opened the ports as per the FAQ on my router.

Any suggestions on what else I could try?
