I recently moved into a flat and we share a dish. When we moved in, we we're given the accredited installer (for the building) name and telephone number as well as a printout of the settings for the dish.

But the guy is hopeless! Complaining to the Body Corporate does not seem to help either! Apparently they we're not big on getting the dish in the first place and about 20 people got together to buy the dish and paid for it themselves. Then it went big and now everyone is using it.

Back to Mr H (hopeless). I call him and tell him that I entered the settings, but that it does not pick up all the channels. He promises to come. A week later, he pitches up and says signal is not strong enough. So I pay him for a booster and to also do my extra view same time. Another week goes by and he comes and does the extra view installation. Still not all channels working.

So he comes back Friday and says everything is working. It is not! I call again and he promises to come and doesn't pitch!

I'm not even gonna bother calling him. If I can't fix it myself, I'm getting an outside installer to come and solve it.

Sorry for the long explanation (nice to vent sometimes!). Does anyone have any suggestions, etc? It seems the channels that says "searching for signal" is 101, 102, 103, etc. I haven't done a full list, but thought I'd start off here.

Any input, suggestions, etc would be appreciated!

It's possible that the system has not been fully upgraded... There was some big changes towards the end of last year. How many additional settings did they give you? There should be 9.

I would not get any random installer to assist. Most of them have no idea how these single cable networks work. They might make things worse, at your cost. Have you complained about this guy to the BC? Maybe if they get on his case, he will spring into action.

Also, if there is problems with the distribution network, this should be for the BC's account and not yours...

Update: Today, while trying to set up the missing channels, I moved the decoder to the side of my cabinet to get to the cords at the back of the decoder and all of a sudden the channel came up? As soon as I put the decoder down, the channel showed "searching for signal" again. What's up with that?

I will speak to the lady in the office on Monday - just to find out what can be done.
