Some good news!!! :D

News 24

Polokwane - The ANC is reported to have lost 13 wards in Limpopo's Giyani area as community members nominate their own candidates for the May 18 local government elections instead of accepting the party's choice.

"There have been a lot of defections because of a lot of dissatisfaction with how the ANC handled candidates chosen by the people to represent them," said independent candidate Gezani Sithole.

Sithole was an ANC member in Ward 16 in Mininginisi village until he resigned after complaining that the ANC Mopani regional office had sidelined him in spite of the support he had from the community.

One of Sithole's supporters, Wisani Mathonsi, told community members during a campaign that the ANC had failed to deliver on countless promises.

"We are tired of false promises. It make makes no sense that you buy a cow and then at the time of collection they show you a donkey and tell you to take it. There's a big difference between a cow and a donkey, and we are tired of getting a donkey," said Mathonsi.

"The community has made its decision. In this ward we vote for only on one person and that’s Gezani Eddy Sithole," he said, to loud cheers from the supporting crowds.

Im pretty sure the DA is ganna win my municipality.

What makes you say that, w1z4rd? I'm assuming you are in East London...

I was under the impression that Cope is (was?) the "official opposition"...damn, it would be nice to get rid of these egomaniacs in our monkeypalaty... :o

These are for municipal elections, not provincial or national. I voted COPE last main elections last time, wont this year, a lot of us actually did. We dont be splitting our vote this time. My area I live in is Nahoon. No squatter camps or anything around to take the vote away from the DA.

Is Nahoon a separate municipality, does it not fall under buffalo city?

No it falls under BFC. But each suburb gets its own something or other I thought? I see the ANC candidate for Gonubie is a white chick :D

Yes, you have wards, but it does not help you to much if you only have a few DA councilors on the BFC. The ANC will still run your city.

There are a lot of wards of the DA to win in EC. Especially considering that the ANC doesnt even have candidates for all wards yet :D Also, suburbs like Cambridge and such only lost to the ANC by one vote in the last municipal elections and thats when there was a much higher degree of middle class voting apathy. We wont win the province, but Im sure DA will make massive inroads. Also, I really want my ward DA controlled :D So Ill be voting.

I see my error though, the DA wont take the municipality. When I was thinking that I was thinking ward :D Sorry all.

It's a bit pointless ... they want their own candidates, but those ward councilors are still from the ANC.
