Companies that don't reply to mail

Just a rant, but why do so many companies have a sales@ or info@ on their site, and don't bother to monitor it? Over the last few weeks I've mailed numerous companies with zero reply. I get the feeling that this could be a decent source of additional revenue!

We're bringing in an electrical product and emailed 4 electricians in the area for installation of 10 devices at my place. Also requesting if I could list them on my site as preferred installers - zero replies.

I've emailed Communica to purchase all available stock of product X - twice. No reply.

I've mailed Netram to purchase the same stock when Communica didn't reply - no reply.

I've emailed ITWeb for information on sales and advertising - no reply.

I've mailed Mantech twice about purchasing a microscope - no reply.

I've emailed SAPO three times regarding a missing parcel - no reply (though, this was expected)

I've emailed SABC TV License about my account number pulling another users details - no reply.

As a final a few days ago, I had a friend looking at purchasing a Mazda but was quite intrigued with a Volvo. I mailed the Volvo guy that helped me and did receive a reply - but a few days later he hasn't contacted the friend ... who is now just going for the Mazda.

Customer service in South Africa is horrible. Government I expect, but if you're running your own company MONITOR YOUR MAIL

One of the reasons, overworked staff, on a good day I hardly have time to look at the mails and I just hope that anyone with something urgent will call, I can just imagine that happening with the Communica staff at least, the one I used in Pretoria was very busy, other reason is just plain lack of interest, especially with the likes of SAPO and the SABC.

Then I wonder if there'd be some sort of business opportunity for someone to assist? All the mails going through to a 3rd party to manage multiple companies and filter or assist. I guess the one issue would be that the person assisting would still need to go to the company for certain info

That's a BS excuse. If you can't attend to emails then don't have an email address.

True, if the companies concerned do acknowledge that as a problem and potential income lost, honestly I have never had that feeling that anyone cares.

The thing is when you even start typing a mail, you know it won't be seen - whether you want to buy something / sell something / need a service / need assistance. It just all feels very pointless and like xrapidx says, maybe they shouldn't have if they cannot manage

That's fine, it might be a BS excuse to you, but fact is there are reasons why people don't reply to mails or do so when it does not matter anymore, you can also share your own opinions on why this happens, I am interested and so is OP.

Sometimes those mails also goes to distribution lists.. info@ goes to 10 people. Each of those 10 people thinks someone else will reply.. no one does.
I always have info@ and sales@ go to our receptionist, and she forwards to the relevant person to handle.

Why must I have a reason? There shouldn't be one. Its unprofessional, and poor conduct for any company.

I find dealing with overseas companies to be a thousand times better. I'd rather buy overseas, pay more and wait longer for a product because I know the service will be better if something goes wrong.

That is a very simplistic view from Xrapidx, have there ever been times when someone called you on your phone and you could not answer for some reason? do we then conclude that you don't have any use for the phone and you should not be having it in the first place?

:erm: If you're running a company, you have the number and you call back.

Besides that, an email to a company usually states specifically what you're after - so no need for guessing, its in your company mail box - you can't miss it.

People with your view that its "ok - because we're busy" are the reason the service in SA is so ****.

I tried getting a quote from HiQ Woodmead, called on monday. Still waiting for my quote for 4 tyres.

Having to deal with people that 70% of the time email about something we don't even do takes up a lot of valuable time that could have been used to attend to those that can actually make use of our services.

That being said, we always make an effort to reply to every single email we get, apart from spam of course.

I can fully understand why BIG companies don't bother with replying to emails as they have work coming out of their ears, plus the staff just don't give a hoot anymore.

Exactly, but what if after whatever time you decide to call back, the person is not interested anymore or has found what they are looking for somewhere else? How is that different to a late reply on an e mail? Allow me to quote what I said previously,

Did you perhaps miss that? I am thinking that your " if you can't use it lose it" logic is the real B.S here.

Of course, if you ever got a chance to take a look.

I am often looking for suppliers, service providers and have consistently noticed that around 50% do not ever answer, or answer between a week and a month after.

These go directly to our blacklist of suppliers.

Well at least you called back? Read the OP again - NO REPLY.

Again - then don't have an email address. Why have it if you don't use it?

Its also very easy to put an auto-response on emails to say "we're really busy - please phone instead" - but in your books its acceptable to just not respond because "too busy"
