Hi,

I need some advice I'm looking for companies that provide networking solutions in Durban.

A friend of mine has a buildings in durban cbd that provides student accommodation to approximately 500 students. (I'm not sure how many floors the building has and how many tenants per a floor).

His looking to provide internet access to the entire building. Any advice on how to go about it or who to contact would be appreciated.

What I had in mind was to take a few Lte uncapped packages. Connect them to a switch with a whole lot of access points around the building.

No fibre access at the building.

Thanks

You will have to get someone to build a solution where you are able to provide a capped amount of data per person or even shaping per application if you want to go with an uncapped route. I can't imagine LTE being a viable solution, it would simply cost too much. Get uncapped business DSL, a firewall, perhaps 1 switch per floor to cut down on cabling costs and as many wireless APs as required. Work with someone who can setup the firewall for a once off fee. Most MSPs should be able to supply this kind of thing, DM me if you need assistance, my place also does this

Not sure about specifics, but they could look at a (proper) wireless link to the building if there are no other options.

Perhaps someone else can help more.

As for the internal network, I agree with the above. Ubiquiti all the way.

With that amount of the tenants what speed line would I require to provide fair usage speeds to all tenants.

At least 100mbps. Probably 200mbps. Dependant on usage profiles.
You'd also want some very good QoS/throttling going on, to prevent some torrenter using all the bandwidth.

students = proxy and yes we all know a torrent server on the sly, its just a fact of life - then good networking and a decent Internet connection
