So out of curiosity I'm starting this thread to hear what guys out there are receiving as additional benefits, working in IT we are always looking for new and better opportunities and tend to move more around than the non-IT crowd. One thing when browsing jobs is we will always like to know what other benefits a company provides, this is never advertised in the vacancy post. Whether it be discounts, repo rate financing, etc. This all plays a role in accepting an offer. So will be interesting to hear what is all out there.

NB. Let's start each reply with "I heard..............", this way we don't have to know where we all work

I heard benefits are over rated anyway. Medical aid and Pension should be required by law, it shouldn't be a benefit.

Nothing.. straight salary and that's all.. So amount x less TAX, UIF and all that stuff the Zuma regime says must be deducted by law.
Pay medical aid from my own pocket. Ditto for retirement funding

Medical aid, pension fund, disability cover, preferential staff rates, 28 days annual leave and semi-flexi time...

Medica Aid
Pension / provident
staff canteen with a small allowance.
Cellphone allowance
Disability / Death Cover.
Leave Buyback.
Additional leave days -
Flexible work hours / Work from home on certain days are options.
etc etc etc.

I get a desk, a chair, a desktop, laptop and a 3G USB dongle.

I heard Nedbank offers repo rate home and car loans, as well as a performance bonus and "guaranteed" increases, only thing is that their operations are run up in JHB

Little in terms of formalised benefits in the traditional sense.

ifruit phone that is unlimited on data & international calls - personal use is permitted.

Flexi-time: I can do whatever I want though there is a reasonable expectation that I'm in the office most of the time else the teams will be leaderless so to speak.

Medical is subsidised / negotiated down by the company. As is life cover.

And generally pleasant work environment. Stuff like fresh fruit in kitchen etc.

Matching 401k plan.
Medical, dental and vision coverage for family.
Life insurance for self and spouse.
Long and short term disability coverage.
Flex-time.
Business class travel.
Food in kitchens (includes good coffee, sodas, snacks, etc.)
Catered meals twice per week.
20 days off per year.

Desk, chair, iFruit computer and phone, salary.

Cooked lunch every day
Company vehicle (1000 kms private milage allowed every 3 months)
Company Petrol card
Company Mobile Phone (private calls allowed)
Company Notebook
Company Internet at home
20 Days leave a year

You will probably get a "total cost to company" offer, which means that pretty much all "benefits" like medical aid and pension funds will be deducted from your salary.

Flexi time is pretty standard in the industry. It laughable that some places don't offer it.

The other benefits, like free food, are there to either keep you at your desk for longer. No need to drive to go get lunch, or no leaving work in the evenings because you're hungry. The free cool drinks or beer on Fridays are there to keep you content without the need to pay you more. Think about it, what makes the average well earning IT guy happier for longer, free beer/cooldrinks, or R500 a month more?

Considering I don't drink, I'd rather take that R500 extra, thanks.
