Ladies and Gentlemen, my youngest daughter has a very old laptop that she uses only now and again and it has always given problems but now it gives the following message:

162 - System Options Not Set

F12 - Network Service Boot

we cannot get in obviously so my question is. Can I get in another way? Must i boot up using a disc or memory stick? My thinking is that once i am in i can maybe try fix things with a fresh install of windows or something.

The system ran Windows XP and google tells me how to make a Boot disc but will it work or is the laptop beyond repair?

Thanks.

oh my laptop thinks it's a man with a disease and is getting divorced and has been offline and needs a mofo and a r2-d2 c3po and needs some advice please.

*maybe the technical stuff don't get answered on this forum*

Firstly, would you like some cheese to go with that whine?

Now, I can't find any reference on the net to an Evo M700. The M700 I use is an Armada, and it cost R 40 000 in SA, when it was new, or about R 80 000 in 2010 money. How many do you think they sold at that price, and to who? So you're basically asking for help on a 9 year old notebook that only CEOs could afford, and you're wondering why no one's got a clue about your problem! If I knew how to fix it I'd have helped, but mine has never given me that problem. Sorry.

While we're on the topic of old, obscure, top-end notebooks... I've got an HP Omnibook 6000 with a broken screen hinge, anyone got a spare? <---- See how ridiculous this is?

Hahaha...

Hi Wayne

It sounds like it has forgotten its CMOS settings and does not know it has a hard drive to boot from. You might try to get into its BIOS setup and set the date + time and Hard Drive settings... maybe replace the CMOS battery ... ?

See Linky...

sorry i asked, next time my bum needs scratching i will look for your reply.

howzit Kilo, thanks for the linky. those names you mention are exactly the problem we had for a few years now but it seems it finally packed up. I will go through the link and follow those instructions and see what happens, it cannot get any worse then what it already is.

thanks once again kilo.

Hey no prob...

If you feel like leaving it with me for a day or two I can have a look at it for you... I kinda have a fond spot for old laptops...

hey we can make a plan no probs, as i say it is very old so has lots of wear and tear but my daughter mainly used it for her music and games. I will speak to "the Boss" and hear what we come up with and let you know.

ok sorted, our driver is keen, so let me organise a time with her then you and we will come through.

No prob ... there is always someone here if I am not in... let me know the time ...
