Not sure if this is the right place, but I just wanted some opinions from those who own/used these three phones i'm looking at getting; just one of them ofcourse :p.

Anyway theres the Sony Ericsson W995, the Sony Ericsson X10 Mini Pro and the Nokia E5. Price going from High to lowest.

Any suggestions are welcome :)

Cheers :D

I have googled quite a lot actually lol. Advice from someone who has had the phone for a while is usually pretty helpful :)

Specs are an awful way of comparing phones. It is how it was done 10 years ago, and has very little place in the modern era.
User experience is what counts. Try find reviews from respectable newspapers

Very true, screen res and interface counts the most for me. X10 mini pro has a crappy screen, so not going to bother with it now. I can only get the W995 in silver which bothers me, scratches show easily. E5 on the other hand, my father has, the interface is really ****; really outdated.

Why not try LG Optimus One, or HTC Wildfire... I have Optimus One, and really happy with it for the price, its an awesome phone! My friend has Wildfire, its also great, but the LG has better overall specs

That is why I love gsmarena, I always go through the user comments. Allot of the comments are junk on there own but if you go through a couple of them you get a general idea about a device.

Just remember, the W995 is not a smartphone, so if you're hoping to run any programs on it, you'll be stuck with Java MIDP , whereas the X10 mini is an Android.

The screen resolution is bad yes, but at least it's more useful. Also, all three phones you mentioned has that same, low, 320x240 resolution, but the x10's screen is smaller so it should look better.

So screens = draw, maybe slight advantage to the x10, seeing it's also a touch screen

Interface: You have the ancient Symbian, the just-as-ancient but less functional Sony Ericsson dumbphone interface (looks a lot like Symbian), or Android. Clear win to the X10 then.

Thanks alot for the comment. Have you seen the X10 mini pro yourself, and used it? The features of the X10 mini pro seem well better than the w995 and the E5.

I have a W995.
It's a great phone and has a nice camera. (8mp)
Did a upgrade for a SE AINO three months ago but still using the W995.
Best phone I ever owned.
The X10 is nice if you care about Android and apps but a great camera I always have with me is more important to me than apps.
Please stay away from the E5.
Absolute crap. If you want a Nokia and can afford it, go for the E72.
My vote would still be for the W995.
Not a smartphone but can do almost anything else.

I've seen one, as in held it, but not really used it. I have the "normal" X10 (the big one), and although they are quite different, the Android interface is always more or less the same, the smaller one just has much less room on the screen, I heard it can only e.g take 1 widget per homescreen, whereas the big Androids have a 4x4 or 4x5 grid for widgets. I've read and seen enough video's to have a pretty good idea of the differences though.

The experience won't be the same as a high-end Android like the full X10 or the HTC Desire, but it'll still be far better than the non-smartphone SE one, which I do know since a friend has the W995 and I had a W810 and W885 before. Also remember that since it's Android, you can change the whole homescreen app if you want, basically giving you a new UI.

If I had to choose one of those 3, the X10 mini would definitely be the best.

My brother in law owns a X10 mini pro and when you get past the Android apps which are pretty useless IMO it is not a nice phone.
Also my friend owns a cellular dealership and he has had the same X10 in stock for 6 month now and he doesn't even seem to be able to give it away.

Yeah, having Google Earth on your phone is pretty useless hey...
So is being able to stream videos from your PC, or being able to control your desktop remotely, or being able to copy files over the wi-fi network.
Having Skype running and being able to receive calls from the phone network or Skype (or both at the same time) is certainly useles..

One of the most useless things is being able to sync with Winamp on your PC, just as useless as being able to download youtube videos.

The uselessness is taken to new heights with being able to instantly send any files, eg photo's you've just taken, to someone through any of various options like email, mms, facebook, picasa, etc, and having new apps integrate with these and other functions, like it was part of the OS from the beginning.

Sure is useless in here...

Ok.
I get your point but the W995 can do some of the things you mentioned like:
1. Its got a GPS with navigation. Its got google maps. (OK its not google earth)
2. It can stream videos from youtube.
3. It can also control your desktop remotely.

Also is he going to use all of the things that you mentioned?
If he really wants all these things and more there are better options than x10 mini pro.
There is also a big difference between x10 mini pro and X10.
The X10 supports hundreds of thousands of Android apps while the x10 mini pro only supports thousands.
Wonder who is useless here ........?

Well the problem is I want the best of both worlds I guess :p. I want the X10 features but also want the solid feel of the w995 with the tasty screen that comes with it.

It's far from "tasty" really, like I said, the 3 screens have the same resolution, so the only difference is the size, the larger one will look more pixellated, the smaller ones will look better (crisper). But it's your money after all...

Thanks, I never knew that (not being sarcastic). I'm getting my contract renewed, thats why I guess i'm fussing about it. The X10 Mini Pro still looks promising though, even though it's small. I'm just really against cheaply built "budget" phones that have really crap screens (been caught out so many times with cheap ****).

Ok decided to go for the Xperia X10. Anyone got a reason why I shouldn't? :p
