My brother and mother live in Joburg. I'm thinking of moving for a while to be with them. I know just a small amount about SA adsl and broadband offerings.

In LA I have a bridged adsl connect with 6meg down/608k up with 8 static ips and no cap.

What can I expect if I were to get adsl in joburg?

Thanks

1 Mbps down max. Anywhere between R65-R80 per gig. No static IPs. 1-2 month install time, if your exchange is DSL enabled.

You can expect everything to be the oppisite of that in America. I will place my life and .geek's life on it. Sorry...just had to get my point across.

Thanks for the responses guys.

Right now I run a web server, nntp, email server, game server (depending on what I'm hosting) etc so for that in SA I'd need to go to some dedicated hosting company?

Exchange would probably be in the Sunninghill or Kyalami area.

Are pings way too high to effectively play games like Planetside?

I wonder if pings to the UK are less than the US.

I wish you guys could get some good connections/competition. I read a few posts and see the hoops you have to jump through to get service and then get it capped each month etc etc
