Hi guys...do any of you know whether the K3565 modem is compatible with Ubuntu 9.10? I know the E220 is and it works like a bomb on my laptop, but gonna give my old laptop to my mom with Ubuntu 9.10 installed and I would like to set up 3G for her.

Yo

There are two K3565 models - the Huaweii works out of the box, the ZTE requires some work (BTW I've installed both lately)

For the ZTE to work you need to go to the betavine site and download the Vodafone App and the ModSwitch package (there is a third one that you need to download, its grouped with the other two).

And thats it!!!

The Vodafine install actually sets up the correct dev rules.

thank you cbrunsdonza. tried the betavine thing on 9.04, but could not get it to work...got it to install, but when clicking on the menu item nothing happened.

I had the k3565 working with no problem in Ubuntu 9.04 on my Samsung NC10, using betavine s/w as well as the default network manager. All the networking (including the connection to my wireless router) seems a whole lot better after the upgrade to 9.10.

Make sure you have the ozerocdoff driver installed for the k3565 (available with the betavine drivers), otherwise the OS tries to mount it as a CD (stoopit windows idea). (Could be why you could not get it to work.)

I'll plug the k3565 into my newly "upgraded" notebook shortly and will let you know what I had to do to get it working.

Ok. This is from the k3565, on my old notebook running Ubuntu 9.10. You have to install ozerocdoff and the usb-modeswitch to get it to work. However, it disconnects any other usb memory devices attached when you plug in the modem (plug them out and back in and they work again). I'll check whether the same happens on the NC10.

I haven't loaded the vodafone-mobile-connect at this stage, so don't have the betavine app up to test.

To activate the modem click on the network connection icon and do what it tells you. Then right click on the network connection and edit mobile broadband. Under the IPv4 tab change auto (ppp) to auto (ppp) address only, then add the following dns servers: 196.207.40.165, 196.43.46.190. Disconnect by clicking on the network connection icon and then reconnect. (This may not be necessary, as I had an ethernet connection attached when I booted and it probably had webafrica's dns servers up)
