When this new subject opened up on the MYWIRELESS product about 8 month ago i talked about the technology behind the product and my comments were slated by some of the forum members (ProAsm etc..)

Any how here is an interesting article, enjoy:

Hmmmm sorry to hear 9 months down the line that "mywireless sucks too!!""

At least its a start some competition may be good!! Then again this is Africa we live in!!!!

With all the other bitchin and moaning in the other topics about towers and cables and antennas and and.......I will keep my ADSL for know, it has 99.9% uptime gives me min 40kbs download speeds and at least i am getting whah i am paying for, although it is a lot but do i have an alternative?

Lets see what MTN and the other big boys do!!

As I was saying at the begining of this topic, here is Telkoms official word:

You the one that start slating everyone and the forum in return slated you:

Then I gathered it was sorted out, but obviously you carry some sort of grudge:

If MTN/Vodacom will as they seem to claim be able to provide always-on connectivity with both reasonable bandwidth and reasonable rates, AND VOIP becomes deregulated, how will they be able to continue to justify the ridiculously high cellular call charges? One call is on average probably about three or four rand per minute at less than dial-up bandwidth consumption, vs. always-on higher bandwidth and 'all the calls you like' .. hmmm. Might deregulation/convergence combined with the existence of Sentech as a competitor in the voice and/or IP market finally force local cell companies to actually compete and thus lower their call charges to reasonable rates? Or might MTN and Vodacom collude to keep subsiding 3G at a loss from their inflated cellular income until Sentech is driven out the market? Could get interesting. Or will the law simply continue to treat voice data as "special"?

Just received SMARTDATA GPRS rates from Cell-C.
3 Tariff Options.

Smartdata Standard:
Activation Fee = N/A
Monthly Fee = N/A
Cost per Megabyte = R25.00

Smartdata Personal:
Activation Fee = N/A
Monthly Fee = R15.00
Cost per Megabyte = R17.00

Smartdata Professional:
Activation Fee = N/A
Monthly Fee = R60.00
Cost per Megabyte = R12.50

This reminds me a few years ago with MTN starting with GPRS Internet connection, charging R50.00 per Megabyte. So guys don't expect cheaper rates from any of the Cellphone companies. For more info on MTN rates have a look at MTN Ice.
