Competition bites

Unfortunately for Telkom, a day planned to give analysts better insight into the company's operations on Thursday led to a R6.5bn destruction in value as the share price plunged 7.7% by late afternoon....

What competition?
The only thing that bites is when Telkom takes a bite out of my Bank Account every month. :D

Has anyone thought about the notion of Telkom being bought out by a rival company? It is possible. Even if Government owns 38%?
Would there be enough shares around to acquire 51%?

It was inevitable that as an incumbent facing competition, Telkom would lose market share, Patel said. But, its choice was to either be like a British Telecom, which gave up around 10% market share, or like German operator Deutsche Telekom, which surrendered as much as 25% of its market share to competitors.

But, Patel explained, such initiatives come at a cost in the short-term. He, and CEO Papi Molotsane implored investors to stay on board with the company for the long-term.

Bulls turned Beggars. :)

*raises glass of scotch and toasts the notion that Telkom's decline will make Deutsche Telekom's 25% loss look insiginifcant by comparison*

Bwaaaaaaaahahahahahahahah.
BUY BUY BUY BUY BUY !
Don't be fooled, that company is even stronger than it was yesterday.
Telkom continues to generate a significant amount of cash; R18.6bn in the interim period to March.
Say no more.

Seriously ... if it drops another 4% i'll be in there buying [well ... i'll have to cancel my adsl to buy]

Telkom confirmed the guidance that it had given was significantly different from previous indications and acknowledged that the margin issue had come as something of an unpleasant surprise.

Chief financial officer Kaushik Patel said the unfortunate thing about success was that it was expected to continue. But, where external factors were concerned, it could not be expected to continue in the same way. "The fundamentals of this business have changed to a certain extent," he said, "The base we've been working from has changed."
Telkom catches a wakeup. How much longer are we going to have to wait?
