Hey guys,

Ive taken most of the results from the speedtest thread and compiled it into excel and made some graphs etc. I need to upload the .xls and .jpg somewhere - can someone tell me a place where i can upload it so i can share it here with youll.

Thanks.

Hi all,

Here are the graphs. Please be aware of the following:

1) The results were dominated by a select few who posted many speed results.
2) Those who did not provide what connection they were on were excluded.
3) Those who did not use the jhb server were excluded.
4) Those who used speedtest.neotel.co.za instead of speedtest.net were excluded.
5) Those who gave estimates and not accurate results were excluded.
6) Those who did not provide times were excluded.

There were not enough neotel lite results so i have not compiled data on them.
There were also not that many neoflex results so the results may not truly reflect the performance of the network. The neotel prime results should be very close to network performance.

I have created 3 types of graphs:
1) Day to Day - shows how network performance changed over a period of days
2) During day - shows how network performance fluctuated from 0h00 to 23h59
3) The above including latencies (some people didnt post latencies so I created two sets of graphs, those including them and those excluding them)

Here are the graphs:

Neotel Prime:
Day to Day -
Prime-Daily.jpg

During -
Prime-During.jpg

Neotel NeoFlex:
Day to Day -
Flex-Daily.jpg

During Day -
Flex-During.jpg

Edit:
Guys i actually realised theres an error in the method i used to create the Day to Day graphs. Please ignore those until I aggregate those tests done on the same day. Until I do this any trends will not be visible.

Edit 2: Images fixed.

what all that work and no responses??!

Ok.

This is what the results show us:
Speeds has improved recently especially on neoflex but only to the decent speeds we used to experience.

From the prime graphs we can see the speeds tend to be highest during the day. On flex they appear to be fast in the evenings. We do however need many more speed results from new people to get anything meaningful.

Whoa man great job on putting this together! Just downloaded the Spreadsheet to have a look! How'd you grab all the results ?

Rocking on the graphs too. I still think we need to find software that'll run scheduled speed tests on the hour, log the results for us. That way we can keep a steady constant record of speeds and put them up. We could all compile to get a nice idea of things, although not to the extent of grabbing all those results!

Yeah I set it up so its publicly viewable (ie dont need google account)

Okay, ive taken all the speedtest results ever conducted on Speedtest.net originating from a Neotel IP on the JHB server and have createed a graph. No manipulations and no data has been removed. All that has been done is that speed results on each day are aggregated if more than 1 test was performed on a day. The solid black line is a trend line showing the trend of dload speed. As you can see its bottomed out.

BTW - there is probably a strong upward bias in these results since the speedtest results also include speedtests done in offices etc who have much faster connections. The general trend however can still be seen.
