Compiz Fusion

Ok sure, will try that. Basically what happened was that my windows' title bars went missing (Title, minimize, maximize, exit) and a right click meant that it flickered before opening.

15% of the time on startup my titlebars are missing, too. a great solution for that is to install a Compiz Fusion Icon package - an applet sitting in tray where you've got lots of options to configure Compiz. One of them - and that fixed the missing titlebars with a whirl! - "Reload Windows Manager".

Bingo! And everything is back to normal. Tell me if you got it right.

Yeah thanks, that does work. I originally installed it from the command line and it seems the icon package wasn't a dependency.

'compiz --replace' in terminal will do the same thing.

My fav in compiz is the dodge animation on focus, totally cosmetic, really doesn't serve as a visual cue for anything but just adds a little *boing* to my desktop :)

Sure, I am glad you can enjoy it now.

Went back to Windows some time ago - won't go into the reasons. But this thread makes me long for my Gentoo install! Think I'll do a linux install again, just for the pure fun of it. And, to be honest, once installed properly a linux install is much more user friendly than Windows.

As for compiz: I used to run it on a Mobility Radeon 9200. Was a struggle to get the drivers and X properly configured and integrated, but once configured it ran smoothly.
