Maybe ayce will comment on this company policy.

Using the our prepaid service here: http://allyoucaneat.co.za/pp.php, you can make a payment with a credit card (Mastercard, Visa or American Express) or with a direct deposit (we require you to fax the deposit slip) or an electronic fund transfer (we require you to fax or email the proof of payment to [email protected]).

Normal signups are done here: http://allyoucaneat.co.za/signup, and need a bank account and fax Step 5. If you don't have access to a fax machine you can print, sign, scan and email it to [email protected].

In fact, e-mail payment confirmations are the preferred method.
But still even with e-mail payment confirmation SAOL requires 30 day cancellation notice periods for SAIX accounts.
What's up with that?

Can't you guys rather make it a 2 week or 1 week cancellation notice period?

Been watching this forum for a while now, and it was though this forum I chose my ISP. Which is Web Africa. (RE: Pink Flod). I have found their service to be very good, and I had an account query resolved at about 10:37PM at night!

Do not paint all ISPs with the same brush.

Welcome aboard digitaleniGma. Good choice in Web Africa :) At the moment their support has proved to be the best I've ever seen. Lets just hope they can keep it up. If they're clever, they will. And Web Africa has already proved to me they are a smart bunch - afterall, they baited me with the R199/30GB special :)

Back to confirmations of payment. I usually email my confirmation of payment through to Web Africa - mainly because I want my prepaid GB to be added to my account asap. I don't have a problem with this. I wonder if more people have scanners than fax machines? Hmmmm...

I would not deal with a company that gave it's support staff access to it's bank account. They more then likely would not be around in a couple of months after some misfit gapped it with all of the money. There is nothing wrong with faxing/emailing the confirmation. If someone wants something to capture the output of a print run look for CutePDF (http://www.cutepdf.com/).

Cheers

Let me begin by saying, that this Forum was created to help people understand Broadband as well as provide help by industry experts. Let me tell you what it is now, a bitching playground.

Here is a simple fact : " You get what you pay for "

Let me explain, how on god green earth are you expecting from SAOL, they dont even make a profit on your account ?.

Why the * * * * would I get out of bed to help you if you were costing me money and then run me down all the time ?

People you have lost the PLOT. This web site was aimed at Telkom to the ISP's, you have taken your anger out on the ISP's instead of Telscum.

So if you pay less you should expect a lower level of service?

Successful companies offer higher levels of service on top of lower prices. There's no reason that any trade off of QOS over price should be tolerated by the consumer - consumers the reason this forum exists btw. Broadband users supporting broadband users.

That ISPs et al are here flogging their wares is secondary and fine with me but anyone who wants my money is fair game if they're not doing their job.

when I get asked who is the best ISP by people I just say they are all the same. One minute I get good service the next I get bad it really depends on who I am dealing with at the time. I even once got very good service from telkom. my current dislike is m-web/worldonline( almost as bad as telkom) try get help out of them I think the support manager worked for telkom at some stage. The only thing to consider from a ISP nowdays is cost where are you going to pay the least the problem is the cheaper one might not be the best because they might not be arround that long

micro30za - if what you're saying is true - that if they're cheaper, that they won't be around for too long... howcome SAOL is still with us since the early 1990's ?

yes - i agree that you would eventually have problems with any of them, its how they make what's wrong, right with you in the longrun! - SAOL is by far the cheapest for 10 gigs, and despite the few problems i've had, their DSL speeds have been great. Once the DSL regulations are in place, it would be interesting to see who offers what!

I would also expect to get what i paid for and nothing less. If the problem is on your side then i do expect you to get off your backside and fix it. If the problem is not with you and upstream of you, then tell me, and i'll go hassle your upstream provider.

PS - Im not an SAOL user - this is just hypothetical.

I fail to understand what your problem is.
As a client I am expecting the best price and the best product .
I am sure that SAOL are making money on EVERY account . In a matter of fact ,If my assumption is right, I think that they are making even more money on the 10GB account since they are selling what Telkom is giving for free.
It is O.K with me since I like to know for sure my limits.
If SAOL is not in a position to supply acceptabley service they should either rise their prices or get out of the market.

In order to pay support staff to "fix it", you need to be making enough money to do so. If I am an ISP and sell you an account for my cost + R2 then I won't have the money to hire support staff. If I sell you an account for my cost + R 15000 then I could hire a staff member to support only you and buy a UPS. In the first situation you will get sloppy support. In the second I will treat you like a king. The happy medium is somewhere in between but you normally get what you pay for. The more you pay the better the support. Guarantees etc can also come into account with higher payments.

Based on your logic :
Telkom is supplying the best support then MWEB and some where in the bottom WEBAFRICA for example .
Is it the real situation ?

:) That is why I said "normally". But on that note I believe Telkoms diginet lines are actually quite reliable and come with SLA's.
