Hi all!

I currently have no Telkom lines in my flat. According to Telkom, the line renal for ADSL is R152 (384kbps) and installation is about R600. Afrihost (as an example) has a 3GB package for R87 per month.

Bearing in mind there is currently NO lines in the flat (I use only a cellphone), am I right in saying that I will pay only a once off amount of R600 and then R239 (R152 + R87) per month for the duration of the contract. What other hidden cost will I have to cover?

Try to avoid contracts at all costs! Nothing worse that being locked into a contract while everyone around you is taking up better deals with other ISP's. The only other cost will be an ADSL modem if your ISP doesn't supply you one. Most often if you don't take a contract, then you must supply your own ADSL modem.

you don't have to pay an installation fee if you take one of the closer plan options ...
you can also save R500 if you do the self installation for the adsl (if available as a option)

search the blogs for adsl for dummies ... there's a very good step by step guide there that will answer all your questions !

1) You will need install the telephone line (about R600 to install) but if you tack a closer plan install is free. Rental = R132 p/m or closer is about R170/pm
2) 384 line install costs about R600 to install, but you can opt to do self install (no installation fee) rental = R152 p/m
3) You will need and ADSL modem roughly R700 (once off)
4) Afrihost is R29/gig (month to month - no contract) Topup is the same, no data rollover.
