Computer becomes first to pass Turing Test in artificial intelligence milestone

Are you being intentionally dense? Advancing computational thinking can open a wide range of possibilities.

Are you being intentionally dense or you can't help being dense? "Advanced computational thinking" is not the same as passing the Turing Test. A system need not fool me into thinking it is a clerk for me to find it useful. That sort of cosmetic veneer is not useful for most people except perhaps computer geeks and the lonely.

You clearly don't have a computer science background, the turing test was used as a primer. The next stages would be to advance its abilities. AI can be used for various fields (which is what this software was written to mimic AI).

No, you seem to think AI only has its place in sex dolls and computer geeks. So run along now kid.

Yes, because I said the ability of a software program to fool people that it's human is the sum of all of AI.

Well that shows don't you don't understand anything about AI, because that is only but a tiny piece of it.

The ability to analyse 3D images as a human expert may is not the same as pretending to be a 13 year old boy. Yeah at some level there may be similarities, but over here people are in awe of the human pretense aspect per se.

I am not referring to the modal of the 13 year old boy. I am referring to the area of AI.

You did realise that it was a sarcastic response? Maybe you fail at the Turing test?

All your responses seem pretty linear so its difficult to deduce what is sarcasm and what is not.

Anyways, arguing with you is like arguing with a child, they don't understand the significance of something so when they get educated on the matter then it will only be worth ones time.

So you're arguing against a strawman. But you're good at identifying simple internet memes.

I would be impressed if a system could accurately find information I was looking for better or at least as well as if I had asked a human being. Or I would be impressed if the computer could read the ECG or a CT image better or at least as well as a medical student. That sort of thing would impress me, not a system which can keep a conversation going which appears to be with a human. Yes that's nice, but it's not necessarily meaningful for me or for most people.

You did not educate. You pointed to some unrelated stuff.

No idea what internet meme i referenced, but okay.

I agree those would be great advancements, but all advancements have to start somewhere. You cannot immediately have a system with human like intelligence without actually starting a young system.

Would you be impressed if the system could argue like an adult? or converse like one?

I never said i educated, but you have not educate yourself on this subject matter at hand (i.e. the 13 year old, encase you cant follow), or to even try to fathom the significance of such an achievement. Its the fact that a machine was able to mimic an adolescent human.

It's not apparent that this is a milestone though or even a necessary milestone.

I would be impressed if it could analyse things on par with a human. But it's not necessary for it to fool anyone into thinking it's a human being. Yes ability to converse is nice and may have applications. Maybe the same tech can be expanded, which is what you suggest to be able to do more useful and more complicated things. But purely this, not so much.

Well least we agree on that. Yes i dont think 13 year old AI is that great, but i can also see that its a step in the right direction with regards to AI in general. I am not sure how they modeled the response system, but if they created a neural net that creates new synapses when it converses with someone and links to other similar synapses that would be awesome.

It would be awesome for that reason and not because it's passed the Turing test, or Turing is cool guy, or it's cool and so on.

But I'm skeptical of hype. I like the work of actual researchers, but hype I hate.

I'm not sure how passing the Turing Test can bring one closer to being able to read a CT the way an expert radiologist with 20 years of experience can. I know there are similarities but there are also differences. And the two need not lead to each other, depending on how the people who did this got it to do what it did (as you said yourself).

What are your qualifications in the field that you can say its not a milestone or even a necessary one?
