Computer keeps on rebooting - please help

Thanks to all the advice. I'll try vacuuming it and cleaning it in the inside. My other computer is a laptop, so won't be able to scan the faulty harddrive from the laptop. How does Chkdsk work ? Do I need to boot to MS Dos to do this ?

It reboots automatically at the same point every time. I can leave the computer on and not log into windows and it stays on. It only reboots about 30 seconds after I've logged in. I don't have the option of doing a HD test from the BIOS, any other way I can test the hard drive ? Cpu fan is working.....what and where is the heat sink ?

Get yourself an external drive bay - they're not too pricy... if you have the cash...

If you leave the machine off for a while, say over night and then switch on, does it take longer before it reboots?

Do you have any of the service packs installed? Because I know that the blaster virus does reboot the pc after 30 seconds. Though you don't mention any error box coming up, which should be the case with the blaster virus. Everyone saying it's hardware, but the fact that it worked for a while after creating a new profile suggests a software problem. Sounds like a virus to me.

I figured it out

Hi all and thanks for all the replies.

I started off by cleaning and vacuuming the inside....didn't work but at least its clean now. I started to think why the rebooting started all of a sudden (I didn't install anything or use infected USB's) so decided (out of curiosity) to go into the BIOS settings and changed the date a week or so back (to a date when the computer were still working).

I restarted the computer and it worked perfectly!!! That gave me time to run a few anti-virus programs and everything is sorted!
