I am a qualified electrician with a national n diploma and a trade test. i want a degree in electrical eng. but no institution is offering a part time degree studies or distance learning except Wits University which is far from me and i'm not planning on quitting my job. Unisa offers a degree in computer science. im tempted to do it at the same time i dont want to sway too much from electrical engineering. please give me guide lines on how i can go about this whole situation. Or is it possible to do a computer science degree and add a few engineering subject. thanks.

Computer science is very different from engineering. My brother in law got an engineering degree the long way studying part time via technicon SA. Was frustrating but he got there. Had to start with diploma, and then kept adding subjects etc until it got to BTech degree and he could write his GCC.

Thank you Cius for your reply. thing is i dont want to go via a diploma route. because it will mean ill have to do Btech just like your brother in law at the same time they are phasing out Btech courses in most universities.

If you have a National Diploma what were your results like ? if your avg is above 75-80% UCT and a few others allow conversion course which is 2-3yrs vs the 4-5yr Engineering degree but thats full time.

Sadly for degree purposes the big ones don't really have decent undergrad offerings and even their post grad offerings are limited.
