Yup we took brazil to 88 minutes, we drew with the worlds best team after 90 when in fact we should have held on for the win.

You my friend are shyte for saying that in my opinion :D
If we could hold Brazil for 88 minutes and Spain for 87 minutes before losing we are no better than our occasional choker cricket team. A good team should be able to stand up for 2-3 minutes! We should have won both games

The difference and you fail to grasp this is SA are ranked 70th in the world, the SA cricket team is generally the best one of the best teams in the world.

So if you think a team ranked 70th nearly beating brazil ranked 3 and spain ranked 1 is shyte than i dunno i reckon you should get off the drugs :D

True but considering how far SA soccer has slipped in the past 10 years and considering the strength of the opposition in our previous 2 matches, it's VERY admirable that we performed the way we did. It was also great to see Santana almost burst into tears when we scored both our goals...shows he's really got his heart in SA soccer.

There's no denying that SA is on the right track...

I can't remember the last time I've actually sat and cheered SA on in a soccer match. It all comes down to the fact that "People love a winning team" and come 2010 I think Bafana are gonna really show us what we're actually capable of.

Awesome game today, well done.

I dont care if we were ranked 199. If we were in the lead for 88 minutes or until the 88th minute, we should have done it for 120 seconds more.

If we were really that bad then we should have lost 5-0 and conceded in the 5th minute. But no, we arent that bad, we are good enough to lead!! And lead untill near the end. Our concentration just fades everytime we are about to win. Now that I think of it, would ritalin be considered an illegal performance enhancer? Cause thats what we need in the last few seconds

Your point about losing concentration is a good one. You still have to give Bafana credit though, they played well above what everyone expected them to.

And also, of the 4 goals we scored in this tournament, 3 of them were not convincing at all, only the last goal that we scored today was an absolute cracker. What I'm getting at is that we're not yet good enough to lead because our striker (yes, one striker) is crap. We need to play 4-4-2 or 4-3-3, this whole lone striker crap must stop. We can't score one and then defend that solitary goal, we need decent strikers to try to extend our lead, not protect it.

Agreed

Our first goal today was fantastic. Tore them apart. You could argue that Spain weren't exactly 100% committed not to mention resting key players but it was still great play

It would leave our defence far more exposed though

Don't agree that the goals weren't convincing but we do need more strikers.

Didn't read the whole thread :p

Just want to say I am extremely proud of the boys. They did an awesome job. You could see Santana was also happy even though we lost. That free kick goal got me bouncing around on the couch like a crazy person :D

With the nation behind them they can only improve more :) and I am pretty sure they know we are behind them.

Well done to the boys. :)
