So the complex i live in has openserve infrastructure and we we want to get fibre at home. This will be for basic internet use as well as streaming here and there. We were thinking of getting a 10meg line at the cheapest shortest "contract". So confused who to go with, I inquired RSAweb and Afrihost. However they dont have the best reviews so now I don't know who I can go with. Help please!

True month to month with no claw back clause :).

But I see they say the router is theirs? Was hoping to also own one in the event i decide to change isps

Just buy one. Its cheaper and better for all involved. Then you can just take the router they send and put it in a cupboard. Then its ready for collection :)

We already absorb a large fee to get your installation in at no cost to yourself, so if you want your own router then buying one is recommended as mentioned :)

Avoid Afrihost. Go with Cool Ideas. Plenty of happy customers on this site.

Yep. I can also recommend this ^

I took the option to have their tp-link router supplied. I suppose there would be some sort of cancellation fee if I were to cancel in the first year or 2. However, I have been using their service now since Aug 2017 with no problems from the ISP side. A cable damaged on the Vumatel infrastructure outside our property was the only hiccup I have experienced. The ISP is unshaped and unthrottled.

Nice. Can't wait for our complex to finally go live. Also chose Cool Ideas.

Been with Cool Ideas and Vumatel for over 3 years now, and still a very happy customer. Can really recommend them.

PBCool why does it take 2-3weeks for installation to happen if the infrastructure is already laid all the way to the house?

A team still needs to install the fibre from the road level to your house, allocate a port and check the service. This is just part of the scheduling side from the provider, and it's usually based on worse case scenario. Are you saying you have an Openserve ONT in your house already?

Yes from what i understand we have a little box thats right outside the door for the fibre. Sorry i am not really technical.

An ONT is a device you plug in, it sounds like you just have a splice box outside your unit which is normal but they still need to pull it into your unit.

Oh Ok. Educated! We will wait and see then how long it will finally take it to have all installed.

And I suspect you have to place an order for that, they will not install the ONT device without you actually placing a order with an ISP

They did our whole complex without anybody signing up. Sent me a invoice when the service was running.

This is very important, just realized Vox's "free installation" has a claw back. I think i'm gonna skip them and go with CI

You just saved yourself a whole lot of hassle. Good choice :)

Installing the fibre lines are NOT signing up with an ISP. Metrofibre installed trenched lines end April 2018. Still busy digging up the streets outside. ETA en July / August. They only installed the termination boxes (5cm by 10cm). That is NOT the ready to be "Fibred". You still need to sign up with an ISP to get the ONT and router..

ONT got installed by Vumatel without any ISP being involved. Got invoiced by Vumatel for the ONT installation. Only signed up with an ISP after everything was set up.
