Ok give me software and I'm sorted but eish.

I need to get a GFX card for my machine. It runs DDR2 Memory.

Now as I was looking at GFX cards i get very very confused.

Different pins, this and that..... how do I know what GFX card I should get for my dodge arse Mboard ?

We'd need to know a bit about your machine 1st.

1. Processor - Pentium III / 4 / Core2 / AMD / etc
2. Motherboard model number - Could be Gigabye eg: Ga-8i945G (you can see it printed on your motherboard in white somewhere or a sticker)
3. How old is your machine - bought it in 1923, upgraded powersuplpy from coal steam burner, to electricity in 1947.... jokes, you bought/inherited your machine which year?

This is to find out if your machine is AGP / PCI / PCIe (Differnt Graphic card slots). Not only that, but AGP is not the same as AGP8x, so we'd need to know your model number/manufacturor of the motherboard to see what the slot is from the website (google is my friend).

Anyway, it's complicated, so give us some more info

Does your dodge arse mobo support AGP or PCI Express?
(Agp slot on the motherboard is usually brown)
And do u want to go amd/ati or nvidia GFX?

Low end, mid range or high end card u looking at?

Damn it, and here I thought I'll just post and you guys will say use this card :(

I'll try and get some info for you.

I got the machine from Hifi-Corp (Don't ask)
I added some memory already as I know it's DDR2 :o No idea what board it is. The GFX slot is grey (don't know if that says something) and has 2 parts to it, a big slot and a smaller slot next to it inline with the first one. (One card with 2 parts to it)

I think it's a celeron 3.06 (not 100% sure though)

And the machine is at home, I'll get more details tonight

We have to know if its an AGP slot of PCI-E slot. Take a pic birds eye and upload

Well, if your motherboard is PCI Express x16, I would recommend the nVidia GeForce 8400 GS (256MB 64Bit) which you should be able to get for under R500. But if you wanted to go even cheaper, you could also get the 7200 GS (128MB 32Bit) for less than R350.

hehe at that price I'll get 3 :D

Seriously. The ones I saw online nearly made me faint

Well if it's PCI express you can get a 9600GT from take2 for R1200. That would be best if that's your price range.

If it's AGP get the ati 3850.

There. Thread over.
