Hi guys,

Could somebody please clear this up for me. I would live to purchase a subscription to Xbox live gold but I need some clarification on the following:

1. I have heard that purchasing the subscription month-to-month is cheaper, is this true? How does one do this, I have only seen 3 month and 12 month subscriptions.

2. One I have a subscription I apparently have to register for a specific region, which is best? Would the region auto-select as I am currently using a DNS proxy for Netlfix.

3. Can I change regions on the fly?

4. Lastly is it best to purchase the subscription in-store or from the dashboard?

Any help on the above topics would be appreciated. Spent the last hour running around google but I seem to just e confusing myself.

I can only answer question 1 and 4.

Question 1:
Lets take a look:
On the Xbox.com website (when you are logged in)
Xbox Live Gold
1 Month Xbox Live Gold
R 50,00 (x12 = R 600)

Xbox Live Gold
12 Months Xbox Live Gold
R 590,00

On TakeAlot.com:
Xbox 360 Live 3 Month Gold Card (SA): R222 (x4 = R888)
TakeAlot 3 Month

Xbox 360 Live 12 Month Gold Card (Xbox360): R468
TakeAlot 12 Month

I would say the TakeAlot 12 month is the cheapest by far, and the code is e-mailed to you.

EvoPoints also have some "cards": EvoPoints

Question 4:
In store = retail shop, like Incredible Connection... and so on?
Most online stores that sell the "Live service" sends a activation code via e-mail.
I am not aware of how xbox.com does it, maybe they just apply it to your account, but in other cases you must enter the code (somewhere I do not remember).
If it works it works, so it mostly comes down to where can you buy it the cheapest from.

I can only answer q3.

I had my Xbox live account couple years back set to USA, changed the region to SA.

So you can change the region, but the amount of times you are able to change is a different story.

1) Purchasing bulk is cheaper most of the time as already demonstrated.
2) I use the US region to get $ prices, just seems cheaper for the games.
3) You can change regions every 30 days IIRC.
4) You can find the subs much cheaper from not-the-dashboard.

On the xbox one, more than person can join your live account as it is for the console and not per person as on the 360.
Doesn't answer your questions but just some info

Thanks for all the info. Got it up and running last night. Now I am faced with the issue of downloading the free Games for Gold. I went to Viva Pinata and hit download, it picks up as free which is correct but just before it downloads it says it is not availible in my region. I have selected the UK as my region....will have to do some googling.

Dunno if it would make a difference but I am running a DNS proxy to get access to Netflix, wonder if that could be screwing with it.
