Hi there

What can I do if my exchange is congested? I can only get 1.4mb/s and should be getting at least 4mb/s. I already logged my fault with Telkom and the technician told me the exchange might be congested and they been having lot's of issues with the exchange.

BTW I'm in Meyrspark Pretoria area

My actual issue is that my line only syncs to 1-2mb/s and my max and my Attainable Rate (Kbps): 1.6-3mb.

Here is some more stats from my router as of 2015/09/13 @ 4:34PM

Doesn't look like exchange congestion, Looks more like a cable fault.

That's what I also think. Let's just hope it's not a physical cable fault that they can't fix. My line was running just fine for weeks and now this.

+1 Signal to Noise Ratio is too low, report a telephone fault stating the symptoms are crackling and noise

When did it start syncing poorly? When did you first notice it?

on the 8th of this month. I already reported and tech was at my house today but couldn't solve it.

has anything changed in your household around that date?

No nothing. Telkom was here and seems like it splits into one of the bedrooms. We disconnected that whole thing and it's working fine now but it's not 100%. I am still seeing some HEC errors on the download. I get like 1-5 every second

What's your attainable rate now?

... here's my stats with similar downstream attenuation:

Seems Telkom have sorted you out :)

... I wouldn't worry about the errors as I see them at all my clients.

Another think I saw is Output Power (dBm):

On yours it's 12 and on mine it's -0.5.

Sorry for so many questions I just want to get the best line I can. There's a difference between a fast line and a good quality line. A 10mb line can give you 10mb but also give you latency issues. you can get a 4mb that's of better quality so that's why I want to sort this out and get the most I can with my 4mb.

I play games like bf4 online and want the best I can

Sorry but I lack the technical knowledge to comment, however in my experience your ISP's routing is the major contributor to latency issues (exchange congestion excluded).

ok so right now my line dropped and speeds down to 1.4mb/s again

:( ... not good. PM TelkomZA with your fault and ADSL line numbers and get them to check your line - http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/private.php?do=newpm&u=258937

I just re-logged a fault with Telkom but I find it not a easy fix as my line is now back up to 4096. I asked them to test for about 2 days and they told me they can do that for me. I will check for a bout 2 days now. This all happened 10min after connected a AIO printer and another phone (not the one that was giving me issues) to the line. So maybe my line is sensitive to other stuff connected to it. I will just leave it as it is now with just cordless phone system and the adsl connected to it

So they moved me on to a Assia profile. Since then my snr has been better at about 20.5. I did sme reading up on the Assia profile and seeing that it can make your latency higher. I tested same server at work and home and at home getting latency of 39ms+ while at work 15ms-20ms so should I move back to the old profile.

What I will also do is by moving my router closer to the socket. Currently it's a few meters away from the socket and using a non twisted pair cable. So I will be moving it closer and use a twisted pair I will make up myself. Then use a ethernet from there to the switch. That can improve things a bit and I hope so.

So should I ask Telkom to change me back to the old profile instead of assia one?
