Congested roads costs SA billions

If more offices subscribed to either work from home or flexi time, it would help big time. Too many are stuck on this 8:00 - 17:00 rut from the early 90s.

I have far better Internet at home, a far better computer, mail can be received on phones/tablets and a cellphone - yet I need to travel an hour to work to be in at 8:00 - and use 0.5mbit Internet on a laptop that continually freezes or gives me a 'not responding' issue.

The old I need to see you and show you my power issue.

On the other hand when I got the opportunity to work from home, 2 guys ruined it for the lot of us and it was said no one can be trusted so.. Banned.

You can't really just give that option to people. You really need a period first to judge whether they can be relied on first...after that you can let them do whatever they want.

I agree.

Sadly only 1 company even attempted such.
Where I am now, there is an option available if discussed with your manager but very few that I know of have agreed to such.

They want to see you in before 9am and not leave your seat before 5:01pm.

Agreed, I worked at one company that allowed telecommute twice a week. But they stopped that as they apparently wanted everyone in the offices due to the changes they were making.
That cost them most of the employees that used to telecommute come to think of.
