Connect 200 Devices To A Wi-Fi Network

Hi,

I have a client that wants to connect 200 students + 25 teachers to a wireless network.

I am thinking of using a Cambium cnPilot AP connected to a Hauwei B618.

1. My biggest question, can a 100mpbs line be able to cope with this connection? (Fibre or LTE)

2. Also, which Fibre or LTE provider that does not have an FUP on it's unlimited data plan?

If everyone is connected at the sametime that's less than 500kb throughout per device... If you can get a mikrotik or edgerouter then at kest you can create smart queues and better manage end user experience, also have functionality to do hotpots and bandwidth management

As for uncapped, what options do you have? Is RAIN 5G available and reliable? What FNOs exist in the area? Most ISPs have uncapped so it just depends on your budget and specific requirements (see above)

Tl/dr: yes you can connect 200+ devices to a 100mbps connection but its not going to be ideal without some network management

I'm sure one of those ubiquiti enterprise APs should be more then capable of handing 200+ clients, like the AP-PRO

Most fiber providers have initiatives for education, talk to e.g. @PBCool.

Not all users will use the net at the same time, 100Mbps should be fast enough with proper QoS.

We're going to need more information.

What will the 200 + 25 users be doing? Are there any local servers that will be accessed? What is the physical setup? One big room vs 10 smaller rooms will have a massive impact. Are clients 2.4ghz? 5ghz? Assuming this will be in a business/school, what sort of SLA is needed?

Ubiquiti nano HD's, a UDMP and a fibre line would be my starting point for this.

The 100Mb will not be an issue, then again depends on what it will be used for, but one AP will not work. You would need 2 or more AP's, split users across 2.4 and 5Ghz on each as well.
Just because the documentation says it can support up to 200 connections does not mean any of those 200 uses will actually be able to work....

The Unifi AP pro can handle about 150 users in a lab enviroment with very low usage per client, more than that it falls over completely, and in real world cases it will be worse than in a lab environment

I have deduced that it is better to account for 50% capacity of an AC manufacture recommendations.

With regards to ISP, if I can get a 200mbps line then that would be way much better...
