Those that are connecting to Towers that are out of range to your local Tower please say so in this thread.
Please keep it short and sweet.

What Base Station Number is your local Tower.
Approx distance to this Tower.
Frequency of this Tower if known.
Location of this Tower if known.
Signal strength from this Tower.

I hope I understand what you mean by local tower etc. I have been having major problems with connecting and eventually bought a 22DBi dish antenna from Poynting and installed myself. This has greatly improved things but I still have problems.

I live in Boskruin (S26 05.037 E27 57.232) and my house is on the slope of a 'Kopie' which seems to play major havoc with the signal.
When I get a signal from tower 82 @ 2.53GHz anywhere between 2% and 12% I can connect fine. This signal is very difficult to find without the external antenna (first tried the Patch antenna from FastComm which is an absolutely useless piece of sh*t except for the fact that I could cut the cable and use the pigtail from it). I think this tower is somewhere near Honeydew which is probably about 4km from me.

I pick up a very strong signal (8% inside house 40% on upstairs balcony - no external antenna) from tower 102 @ 2.53GHz which is at Sentech head office in 4-ways. This is about 9 km away from me but is line of site and will not allow me to connect. Even with my external antennna, my modem sometimes drops tower 82 and picks up tower 102. The only way I have found to resolve this is to reset the modem until it picks up tower 82 again.

I have tried pointing the antenna in various directions - at the moment it is directly away from tower 102. I don't think this is directly towards 82, but I seem to have the best results this way.

I can also sometimes get a weak signal from tower 12 (Mintek I think) but I also cannot connect to this tower. It is only about 4km away from me. but is on the opposite side of the 'Kopie' from me (signal doesn't seem to like solid rock).

The modem seems to lose tower 82 and lock onto 102 at least once every day or 2, sometimes 4 or 5 times a day. It stays this way until I manually reset the modem.

From everything I have read, it is not yet possible to get the modem to select only a specific tower. ProAsm, would it not be possible for you to change your MySignal software to force the modem to reset itself unless it picks up the specific tower you want? I am sure this would be a reasonable interim solution for many people.

Regarding the modem selecting what you like, at the moment its not possible but between RoDent and myself we may come up with something [:)]
Regarding not being able to connect to Mintek only 4 ks away, the chances are being on the wrong side of the hill you are getting a bounced signal which if measured is probably 7 or 8 ks.
Currently from the reports I've been getting there does seem to be a problem with 82 and we are looking into it so hang in there.

Our office is in Persequor park, Pretoria (28.27380402 E | 25.74631091 S)

We get a signal from Sunnyside tower 36, frequency 2518000. The tower is 7km away and we're getting a bounced signal as well as the signal is coming from the east. The signal strength is 20-24%. We could connect to it successfully for about a week, but ever since the extended range was disabled we're getting the usual "Remote host did not respond error".

We are within range of La Montagne (22) which is 4.04km away, but we don't get a usable signal anywhere. The modem did pick it up once, but the signal strength was almost zero.

We're also within range of Kilner park (50) (3.52km) and Menlo park (66) (2.74km), but I remember you said that Menlo park doesn't have a signal to the north, and we're almost exactly north of it. The modem has never picked up 50 or 66.

I think we should pick up 22, but 36 overshadows it completely. There are also some other companies in the office park with the same problem, so it's not just our building.

We're getting an antenna from Poynting next week, but so far none of the antenna's I built made any difference.

As far as I know, The menlo tower has no coverage in the 2530Mhz/240 degrees sector. This means that if you are directly east of the tower you wont get much signal from it.

However, I am directly north of 36 yet I pick up its south-west frequency 2518/120 deg. This is strange to me.

I'm posting this because it was asked. It ain't broke so don't fix it!

Looks like they must have been working on the towers yesterday. My modem had been connected to tower 82 for a nearly record 24 hrs when I got home last night. Then I did a stupid thing and reset the modem to test the new version of MySignal. After this I picked up a new tower 22 which I have never had before, but of course got the "No response from remote computer". Had to go up on the roof again this morning and fiddle with the antenna again to get tower 82. Antenna is now pointing directly south, although tower 82 (honeydew) is NW of me.
Does anybody have the GPS coordinates of tower82 Honeydew or can explain to me where it is?

I have not had disconnect problems at all... since yesterday that is... please have a look at this URL (ignore the fact that it is pings and so on... this is not about that...)

http://www.privet.co.za/boson.privet.co.za_ping-day.gif

The pings/uptime of the link is stable around 200ms and 1.5 days. Yesterday this changed to around 500ms. Since 12pm there I had no signal. This morning I walked around my place and found a little signal floating around... now sitting on 1 led... was on 3/4 constantly.

That is the sad story then. The required info from above... I do not
have a Win32 machine that I can run to get the tower info etc. I stay
in Priver Circle Randparkridge ext. 24.

Hi Privet,

I'd guess you are one of the many people that used to connect on tower 12.

It seems it was adjusted....

Lets' hope something gets sorted soon.

privet, have you tried resetting the modem. I too run on pppoe, and sometimes my signal would go from 4 lights to 1 and the connection reconnected. After restting the modem it goes back to 4 lights. I'm assuming it's because it connected to a different tower, but since I'm running pppoe under linux, I can't check what tower it's connecting to..I normally connect to 102 (Sentech Fourways)
