Connect laptop to tv

Hi. I have a laptop that only has a vga & hdmi output while my tv is the old crt type. I was wondering if there is any way to connect the two together? I know the laptop has a digital output while the tv is analog, but is there some sort of convertor out there that i could buy? If so what is the cost of it?

You are going to need some expensive electronics to do signal conversion.
What inputs does your tv have?
 
its very easy, if your tv has (r) (g) (b) also called component. Look at the back of your tv and look for rgb or component, its 3 RCA's. Get hold of a company in CT called zakspeed, tell them u want a d-sub(monitor) to component cable. And thats it!

Yeah i have the rgb. Unfortunately i'm in jhb:( You think like martrix warehouse will stock it?

Wow thats a %&$#load of cash hey! Rather buy a hdtv in that case. Thanks though:)

Why do so many people want to do this? It's not going to look very good unless you just want to watch movies on a bigger screen or something.

i'm not saying its the same thing, i said r g b or those 3 rca's , its also called component.
I'm running a monitor in this configuration. I have a d-sub (blue analogue vga connector) to 3 RCA's r g b, and I connect it from my laptop to the monitor, and it works.

I agree the quality will look *** cause CRT is like crappy res, but he didnt ask that, he asked if it will work.....it will work but it def not going to look good...
 
So will it look even more crap than connecting through s-video? Coz with my old laptop thats how i used to connect and the picture was good
 
Good Day Joe, I have a HP netbook and need to display on a TV. after some investigation and to cust a long story short I have just this morning tested a system that works perfectly. (But it costs - as everything does) I bought a CNV-385A VGA Input to RCA/Svideo output converter. It comes with own power supply unfortunately. would have been more convenient if it was powered via USB on netbook. On connecting Svideo and sound from headphone out a perfect picture on my old panasonic 74 cm Tv. This makes an ideal solution for the odd occasion you are away and want to show friends your stuff on your netbook eg pictures, video etc. It is a good solution for those witha netbook which don't seem to ever have a svideo out. I got the gadget from a place in Paarden Eiland area - Northgate Estate - Linkgage. I don't know if this is of help, regards

There is a Zakspeed at Woodmead....
