I tried to connect my Xbox to the pc with a crossover cable, pc already is already connected to the net and i dont have a router. Is this this possible? To be able to share the internet connection? I tried for a few hours, but with no success. I can't bridge the 2 lan cards either :(

Moar infoz plz*:
  • which 'doze version?
  • 'connected to the net' how?
  • fo' sho' a crossover cable?
Still, I think it *could* be possible: if you can get ICS going (which, for me at least, seems to work better in XP than 7 (which could also be me being stupid)) your Xbox would be a DHCP client on the 'network'. Or I could be entirely wrong, which is absolutely possible here!
*1/2-way wired outta my skull on too-strong coffee I should NOT have drunk this time o' night and waiting for file copies...

Ok my onboard lan is connected to an ethernet box which uses an rj45 connector. I have a second pci card installed in my pc. The first lan cable connects to the ethernet box from my onboard lan. Now I want to connect a second cable from my installed pci lan adapter to the Xbox via a crossover cable.

You realise this reply fails to answer which Windows version you have on your desktop, nor how you've got it connected to the net? And what is this 'ethernet box' of which you NOW speak - could it be your ADSL modem/router? Also: what, specifically (if anything) do you DO on your PC to get connected?

This does not make much sense at all. First you mention that you don't have a router, but then you say that your PC is connected via an rj45 cable to an "ethernet box"?

Please be a bit more specific about what the "ethernet box" actually is. Brand and model number might help. How does your PC access the internet? Do you need to dial a PPPoE connection? Where do you enter your ISP credentials?

We can't help if you're going to be vague about the details.

lol ok let me start over. I use my PC for browsing/email and sometimes gaming. The internet I have is wireless. Theres a little router ontop of my roof which is actually a high frequency wireless router that connects to a tower 3 KM away. A cable comes from this router to a "power over ethernet box" in my room. I must use a lan cable and plug it into this little box to receive my internet "connection". Now I installed a second lan card in my pc. I want to use a crossover cable and connect it to the Xbox from my PC. Two seperate cables here, one going to the little "power over ethernet" box (which gives me my internet connection) and the other cable from my PC to the Xbox 360 console. Oh and I am using Windows 7. By sharing my primary lan connection, which is the internet connection, I want to be able to use the Xbox on live. Is this possible?

When I moved I had no ADSL for a while. One night I got bored and dailed up via 56k modem (Using XP), shared the connection and my 360 connected to the internets. It was hilarious how slow it was. Standard/Normal Ethernet cable.

Anyway, yes it can be done. Nothing technical involved.
